I was wondering if those background checks on persons on the internet are real. I never found any real =free= background checking site, but lots of pay sites. Is the information provided worth the money and reliable and legal? I mean istn´t info on a traffic violation for example confidential between athorities and the person involved ? I was just wondering ...

As far as I know, all the information that can be obtained through a background check is information publicly available to anyone who pays a fee to the local govt. for doing their job.

Some are better than others because they'll go nationwide but most are just ****.

You can find out the persons address and phone number and what if any, public listings they've ever been contained in.

You know that page of the local paper nobody ever reads, so and so purchased this property, so and so filed chapter 7, etc.etc.etc.

nothing that really means anything about the person.

I did find an old buddy from the USAF that I hadn't heard from in 45 years. Did a white page inq. and got a selection of half a doz. possibilities, and guessed the right one. Got an address, and called info for Phone #. Had a good time talking to him.

Many, including the Colorado CBI background check web site will only check those records in a specific jurisdiction.

In plain language, if someone commits a non-felony crime in another state, or has a restraining order from another state, that MAY not show up in a Colorado search.

If you are doing a background check for a new employee, and that employee just moved into the state, you would not have much information available, and thus the record would come back without any "hits", which would not tell you the true story.

Many times, the only real check that you can run would be by LE only and then when you have a National Agency Check and a "10 card" with the fingerprints.
