Sgt. Mike Viet Nam Humor

How about a little in-country R&R, AJ ?

Must have been an Air Force R&R Center. We got China Beach up in I Corps and no, Dana Delany was not there.Dana Delany - IMDb

As an aside tomorrows cartoon will be the last from me for about 3 weeks. We are doing in-country R&R in Pa.

I'll try to fill in with some more from Choi Oi without getting dinged for unacceptable content.;)

Both departures were shameful. Ho Chi Minh showed the world patience was all they needed to win. Even worse, abandoning those who believed our government's word, once to the VC and NVA then again to the Taliban. Machiavelli and Kissinger would both be proud.

One more from the dark side then it's back to humor.

Avoiding the reeducation camps, curtesy USN

We redirected more supply assets then the law allows. We did it to get our jobs done and to create a better working environment. Never for personal gain or profit. Had a Major General tell me once "Lie, cheat and steal in the name of operational readiness".

LOL, just saw this. Reminds me of a story my Dad told about Italy. He and 2 other Lt’s got a 3 day pass so they borrowed a jeep and went to town. They knew about how anything got stolen unless watched 24-7 so they hired this boy to watch their jeep while they went in this place to eat, drink and be merry. After about 4 hours they decided to find a place to spend the night. Walked out to their jeep and all that was left was the body! The boy was no where to be found. He never said anything else but he made Capt. few months later.

It's a good thing to have a reprieve/vacation from the computer/phone. Enjoy this vacation AJ.

Greyman50's jeep story reminded me of an incident from the 70's when I was flying in the Ohio NG. It was a Cav unit and I was in the scout platoon. We were doing our AT (summer camp) at Grayling, MI. The CO put on a party at the lake, mid-week and every one got pretty juiced. A buddy and I noticed a jeep parked near by with the chain and lock laying on the floor, not around the steering wheel like it should have been. Well, we knew of this night club right outside the gate so we requisitioned (midnight type) the vehicle and headed to the bar. After a night of debauchery we caught a ride back to the hooch. Early Sunday morning I was awaken by the First Shirt who was not very happy. It seemed that someone had stolen Docs (flight surgeon) jeep and someone dropped a dime on me. "Get your butt over to the CO's hooch...SIR."

Standing tall at the CO's desk he informed me that our Flight Surgeon's medical bag was in the jeep and that bag contained drugs. I was to find that jeep and bag ASAP, and, oh yea, I was in big trouble, regardless.

My mind was still a little fuzzy on the nights events but I did remember taking the jeep and going to that club. The CQ gave me a ride to the club and there it was, sitting in the middle of the parking lot all by itself. A quick check of the back seat showed the bag was there. Thank you, Lord!!! I drove the jeep back to camp to take my medicine, so to speak. Our CO was a really good guy and he figured, what with the OHNG's recruiting problems stemming from the Kent State incident of May, 1970 he was not going to ruin one crazy VN helicopter pilot for such a minor infraction.;)

The second week of AT was even better than the first. Our scout platoon had OH-58's and we were scootin' and shootin'.

I forgot to add that I hold Doc partially responsible for leaving his jeep unlocked.:D

I was sent down to NS San Diego to help oversee the unloading of a cargo ship that contained our vehicles and large items that were transpaced from RVN to the States. I drove the CO's jeep while I was there. It had emblems of his range and position on the front and on the back was a tire cover that was custom made by our Flight Equipment Shop with the Squadron emblem and Commanding Officer. Got lots of salutes. Thought it was pretty neat for an E-4 getting salutes for an O-5's jeep.

My Dad also said that goats would find the highest place to climb. He saw a billy on the top of a bombed out building maybe 60’ up. We had goats and the nanny and billy got out and were on our brand new 82 station wagon. Billy on top looking down at windshield and nanny on hood looking in. BB gun worked wonders…. as did a new electric fence.

Speaking of goats !! The village at the base of Nui Ba Ra. That's my good friend Pat Fitzsimmons (KIA August, 1970) with some local SVN goats.

Nui Ba Ra was the mythical sister of Nui Ba Din, the Black Virgin (Mountain).

Peace brother Pat.

You had skivvies? Our underwear had long been cut up into cleaning patches.

The shortage of RBC, we used MOGAS in the dry season and diesel in the rainy season for bore cleaner. LSA was the one thing we had lots of.

No one I knew wore skivvies or any other underwear as you would get crotch rot within 2-3 days, “ Commando” was the way to get by.

I guess we in the 1st Avn Bde were pampered because we wore scivvies. Lots of foot rot from the green slime on the wood palates we used for a floor in our shower shack.:mad::mad:
