I am looking at a Tag Haur Formula 1 watch for Christmas. Does anyone know anything about this brand and the Formula 1?

FYI, all the ones shown on Jomashop were Quartz movements. Best to do your homework.

I got a good deal on my Formula 1 Automatic through the AAFES website, and also recently purchased a Hamilton Intramatic Chronograph from them. @Harrison, you show that you are a US Army vet, so you are eligible to shop AAFES.

I have a carrera twin time automatic, bough it new in 2005

It’s a nice watch, but it requires regular servicing / maintenance

I bought a Tag about six (6) months ago, and have been very pleased. I prefer it to my Rolex. The Tags are a 1/3 the price of the Rolex and are every bit as good. Unless you feel the need to have the ego factor of the Rolex go with the Tag.

Tags are great watches, they get mixed appreciation in the watch community, so who cares?
I have the quartz Aquaracer and obviously the mechanical watch is always more desirable, complicated and expensive, but there is nothing shameful about buying a good Swiss quartz.
Rolex and Omega both produce quartz watches too that are highly respected.
Go with the mechanical if finances afford you to, but get the quartz if you just don't see spending that much.
Love my Tag!
I'm working with my watch guy right now on procuring this Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Co-Axel as we speak.

fwiw OP, the Carrera is/will always be more desirable than that of the Formula 1. The Formula 1 was created for those that didn't want to spend the money for the Carrera, but wanted something "in the spirit" of racing for a lot less.

That Hamilton get great reviews too, Hamilton stuck to their Swiss roots.
New Bulovas are total garbage and went with cheap Japanese mvts. Bulova should've stayed with their mvt. roots, but they wanted a "fashion" watch for the masses.
Not saying all Japenes mvts. are cheap at all, some are highly desirable and regarded.

I have had this one for 10-12 years. It is a Quartz and keeps time to the second. It has the rotating 18K Rose Gold Bezel and is waterproof to 200 meters. I like it as well as my old Rolex or the Omega Seamaster I had many years ago. I have looked at th newer ones and they all seem so large, just my personal view.

This is the one that I bought. With the Veteran's Day sale I got it for $1,100, and received $80 in gift certificates.
American Classic Intra-Matic Automatic Watch - H38416711 | Hamilton Watch

I received a Bulova as a High School graduation gift, it was my entry into Swiss watches. I would not buy one now.

As to Japanese movements, I have a Citizen diver with the Miyota 8203 movement from the 1980's that has never been serviced, but still keeps great time.

bought a new Aquaracer Quartz in 2006...had it serviced once after a battery leaked...$100...good to go after that....also bought a Seiko 5 automatic last Jan.....keeps great time, but case and crystal not near the tag, but a fraction of the price!

I have that model. Bought it in the Cayman Islands. I love it.

I have Omega watches and a Hamilton. The Hamilton is my every day watch and the Omega for more formal stuff (like dinner at McDonalds). But be aware that regular servicing / maintenance is somewhere between 5 and 10 years for mechanical watches and the cost is $500 and more. Plus don't expect a quick turn around.

I've had my Rolex for 25 years and have worn it daily. Have had it serviced twice in that time. They have gotten stupid expensive. Stretched out the band over te years and they wanted what I originally paid for the watch for a new band! Said no thanks, bought a nice nylon band for $30 and I'm good to go!
Quite frankly I prefer the nylon band as it ia a lot more comfortable and a lot less weight and if I break one pin the watch still is on my wrist.

Quite frankly, if I was in the market for a watch I'd buy a Seiko SNJ025 Prospex Men's Watch.

I had one back in the 80's that I loved-it was battery powered not solar powered and I wore it everyday until I finally beat it to death and that's when I got the Rolex. I am glad they are making it again

My last "working" watch was a gift from my wife. It was a Tag Heuer diver's watch. I'm real hard on watches and that watch kept a tick'in, lick'in after lick'n. Don't wear watches anymore now that I'm retired, but it is a dandy.
