Default whiskey drinkers

Canadian that is; has anyone tried Crown Royal PEACH? My wife bought me some before Thanksgiving and I finally tried it. I have been drinking CR on the rocks now for over 45 years. My pop drank Segrams VO with 7 up. I was at a small rural restaurant and ordered a VO 7 and the much older waitress said I should not waste good liquor with soda pop! From then on I started drinking VO/water then gradually transitioned to CR rocks. My first inclination was that the CR Peach would be too sweet and not manly enough, stuff for sissies. I have to tell you I was unexpectantly taken aback and have really come to enjoy it, especially during the holidays.

Well, I say, if you want to drink, drink what you enjoy drinking. The "is it manly enough stuff" is just nonsense. (And I speak as a man who drinks the hard stuff hard. Only mixer in my whiskey, if any, is water.)

We're not in high school anymore. Just enjoy whatever you enjoy. Anyone giving you a hard time about whatever drink you enjoy, or don't, is just an insecure, rude person.

My dad could walk into a number of local public houses and the bartender would have a Windsor and water on the bar before he sat down. It was his drink of choice.

I drink it straight , or with a touch of water . NO " soda pop " drinks for me . I like good whiskey , bourbon better . Winford Reserve a real favorite . I enjoy good whiskey / bourbon with a good cigar , does it get any better ? I started smoking cigars when I was 16 and enjoying good whiskey / bourbon shortly after that . Enjoying both yes , making a D^&*m fool out of myself , NO . Regards Paul

Yukon Jack, 100 proof. Good for sipping while enjoying the evening or watching Dexter.

I enjoy Crown Royal, apple, and Black also regular. What I can't understand is, I have tried several Bourbons as recommended on this forum and I have not found one that I can live with.

I stopped polluting good whiskey with surgery soft drink many years ago. The only thing I add to my sipping whiskey these days is a bit of plain Ice Mountain drinking water. Good clean water with no additives to ruin it’s taste. My two favorite whiskeys these days in my old age is the mild Johnnie Walker Black Label Scotch and for a bit more bite, Old Forester 100 proof Bourbon 🥃

I don’t hardly drink a 5th a year anymore. I drank Wild Turkey. I could not drink any drink cut with water, would make me sick at my stomach in minutes.

Well, I'm a Scotch drinker, but must admit, that CR peach and apple are pretty tastey. Got a bottle of each in the cupboard. The only mix I use in my drinks is ice.

The last time I had CR on the rocks was the night before I was sworn in to the California National Guard in 1964. Got home about 2AM. I could barely find my way to the armory the next morning. Early the next morning. I take things with a little more responsibility in my old age

I made some peach moonshine over the holidays, does that count?

I'm of the opinion you drink what you like, how you like and I'll do the same.

Rye Drinker from way back. Started out with regular Seagrams just out of the navy. then Seagrams V.O. for quite a few years. Then Seagrams Crown Royal, and Finally Seagrams Crown Royal Reserve. Been in bars where the barman didn't know how to make a 7 N 7. Have a rather large bottle of Seagrams Crown Royal Reserve and a small stash of either 7UP or Canadry ginger ale. Good for what ails you. Frank

I'm okay with about anything except gin and scotch. Jim Beam Black is my bourbon of choice, but I'm not picky.

I usually drink my Woodford Reserve bourbon with an ice cube. I do, on occasion drink Jim Beam or Old Grand Dad mixed with diet coke. I also occasionally drink a "Withered Ginger" which is 1-1/2 ounces of Woodford, 1/2 ounce of ginger liquor, finished with soda.

Have never tried Crown Royal

An Islay Whisky neat in a Glencairn works for me.
Tried some real potato vodka the other day and I must say it gives me a whole new appreciation of vodka

Being a young high school kid (early 60's) in Tullahoma, TN my taste tends to a good Tennessee sippin' whiskey, George Dickel, est'd 1870, lived under the shadow of Lem Motlow's Jack Daniel's, which was only 12 miles away and shares the same aquafers, yet George had it all over Lem. Dickel had been shut down for many years but started selling again in 1964, but by that time Jack Daniel's had become a common phrase all over the world. JD's product has changed some from what it was 50-60 years ago, and not for the better.

Back in the days of dry counties that made up most of Middle Tennessee and beyond the moonshiners were king. Back then, 75 cents could by you a half pint of the best corn liquor in the world. They didn't proof their stuff either. You got what came out of the still, hence the term "white Lightning". Those old boys knew what they were doing. Real small batch corn squeezen's from an experienced distiller is the way to go. Having said all that, I gave it up two years ago this month, to save my life and my marriage.

Whatever Canadian is on sale that month works for me, the wife CR only. Mist, Windsor, CC, VO, they all taste a little different but with diet soda or in a Manhattan who knows. CR Special Reserve with a little water for a special occasion. Have not tried any of the flavored CR's yet.

When we go to Red Lobster I always get peach ice tea. Bought some peach CR and mixed it with some bottled sweet tea and WOW was that ever good!
My new favorite mixed drink! Iowa won't allow it yet so I had to get it in Missouri.

Many years ago I was auditing the state liquor dispensary. Liquor is sold
through state stores in Idaho. I was working a few minutes after 5PM and
the old superintendent invited me into his office. He told me he had a store
that was coming up one bottle of Black Velvet short every day. He called the
manager and said you don't know me, but your going to. Then he gave
me a 5th of Black Velvet and said take this home, set down in your easy
chair, pour a glass and just sip it. Pretty soon you will be out of this world.
I did and I was.

I've always found the Canadians a bit lacking on flavor although the CR Black is the best of them. I don't mix soda with good whisky. That's what the cheap stuff is for. Although cheap I find the Jim Beam Black too good to adulterate. I will sometimes add a splash of good water to my whisky. A good blended scotch with a good bottled sparkling water can be enjoyable. Good straight stuff I drink neat. I do enjoy a good Gin with tonic and wedge or twist on a nice sunny afternoon as well a Cuba libre. But that's about my limit of mixing liquor with soda. There's just no hope for some of you guys.

Default Crown Peach is OK, but.......

If you haven't tried the Salted Carmel version, then....... well just find some.
We started a Thanksgiving morning tradition a couple years back, sipping Crown Salted Carmel while prepping the turkey and dishes for the day, yum yum.

This thread reminds me of the girl who came home and said to her mother...

"Mom, I've gotta bad case of VD"

And her mother replied...

"That's OK hon, just put it in the cellar. Your dad will drink anything".

True story. My wife asked me why I only drink Evan Willams bourbon. I said, "because it's cheap and tasty, just like you." She didn't think it was that funny.

I have drank CR for years. I prefer it on the rocks. I started out on Seagrams 7, Lord Calvert Canadian, and eventually VO. VO Gold is better than regular VO in my opinion.

I’ve been slowly working on a nice 12 yr. aged bottle of Bib & Tucker Tennessee Bourbon and I’ve gotta say, it’s one of the better Tennessee Bourbons that I’ve ever tried !

I drink The Glenlivet on the rocks. I do not like blended whisky, and I cannot afford Macallan at somewhere over $75.00 a bottle.

Lately I have been a traditionalist , drinking Old Overholt Rye Whiskey .
100 proof , originated in my area of Pa. now distilled in Ky.

Great history of the brand beginning with German immigrants who were Mennonites ,farmers & whiskey distillers. West Overton, Pa.( 40 miles from Pgh. Pa.) longest “continually operated “ whiskey makers in the US.
Even throughout the era of Prohibition. ( special medicinal license)

I have sat at that bar when we went Antelope hunting a few years back, cool place. I am not much of a liquor drinker, but I did have a few beers.

I’m basically a high rye bourbon guy. I’ve learnt not to drink anything stronger than beer.

I nurse about three fingers of undiluted for sometimes up to two hours. My daily choice is Wild Turkey 101. Not because it’s cheap, but because it’s what I like.

My favorites are usually hard to find and terribly expensive when I do. Booker’s is always great.

As others stated above, most Canadian offerings seem lacking.

I’ve found a number of single malt Scotch’s to be interesting, but between their costs and increased tariffs I rarely fool with them now.

There’s an exception to my high rye preference, Rebel Yell 100 proof is a low cost wheater that’s welcomed on my shelf anytime.

Good whiskey was wasted on me, back when used to drink. Windsor and diet squirt was a favorite, and wasn't drinking whiskey cause it tasted good.

Default Here's a good Crown mixed drink....

For a real refreshing summer (or all year) drink, try Crown mixed with Fresca.
Lots of diehard whiskey drinker friends shutter when introduced, but once they try it they love it.

It's taking hold up here in the NW, as this summer we've had several Fresca outages that have lasted for several weeks in most stores.

Just sayin.....

P.S. It works for most blended Canadian whiskeys

Nice photo.
An employee in a formerly Washington State owned liquor store liked "Rebel Yell" Bourbon so much that he named his cruising boat after it.
I guess I could have named my pocket cruiser "Knob Creek"!
