Let’s not discuss the recent events of the past two years or the past two weeks. Leave it said that it has been momentous.

Have these events made you more interested or less interested in purchasing collectible firearms (or even not so collectible firearms just because).

For me, my thinking is: If not now, when?

The full safe and my age have already pretty much done that.

But when times get tight there maybe bargains. I know I sold my Colt Python years ago as a young man to raise money for the down payment on my first house. With that said considering the world events right now a guy would feel a guilty if you know what I mean.

I am at a point where there are a few items I would like to have and if the opportunity presents itself, I will purchase them then liquidate less desirable items to replace the funds.

My plan is no net increase of the collection and potentially a reduction in numbers to improve quality of what I really like.

I am retiring in the near future, and I have most of what I want.

The recent events have not had an impact on my purchases or approach to more directly answer the question, but the changing circumstances of my personal life will.

I have the guns I want for many years.

But I'm going to say less interested....

Done gun shows near 35 years and now if something
moves it is difficult to replace......forget profit margin.
I am referring what I consider as table stock

I'm setting up for a show this weekend.
No good clue how to price half the guns I will
lay down.
Anyway, summer will be here before we know it and
summertime gun shows are many times slow.

Doubt I will re-new my table.

I have acquired many of the firearms that are important to me over the years. I continue to acquire ammo as it is available.

I continue to check gun shows, pawnshops, and local gun shops as I look for those firearms that will call to me from the case to “Take me home, I’m lonely here.”

There are fewer that call right now, but there’s still a few that will want me to bring them home.

I have all I need for personal protection.

I also have enough ammo to last.

I haven't sold any because I don't need the money.

I have been contemplating selling some stocks and bonds for gold, since if the SHTF dollars will be worthless.

My wife doesn't agree because buying gold is a loosing proposition (10% commission to buy and another 10% to sell). But I say that loosing 20% if nothing happens is better than than loosing it all if it does happen.

Just don't know what to do....

I'll be 55 this year. I've literally owned hundreds of firearms in 30+ years, bought, sold and traded.

I pretty much have what I want.

I'd like a 19 P&R 2-1/2" in blue with box. tools, and papers.

Also a Union Switch & Signal M1911A1 in good, mostly matching condition.

Those 2 guns aren't cheap, and I'd have to sell some stuff to get them.

But as it stands, I'm good.

The current conditions really don't factor into that.

What does factor, is that I'm a middle aged man with no kids. I have 2 nephews. One has zero interest. The other has some, but not a lot.

So, at some point, I'll have to have a game plan to cull the herd.

P.S. - I'm GTG on ammo

Hey Daddy quickdraw67, I was wondering where you were!
Sonny Larry:)

With ammo and components non existent for years to come, shootable guns no longer interest me; Only ones which will advance in value to hedge inflation. More so than mute fund savings.

No effect on me, in the last month I picked up a Finnish Mosin M-39, and a Remington Model 30-S... Two classic Bolt Actions I've been pursuing for some time.

Being 1 birthday away from 70 I guarantee there aren't any more guns going from purchase to the safe. In the last 5 years: 2017 Model 15-3 for $325, 2018 no guns, 2019 New Kahr P9 for $220, 2020 2nd 642-1 for $250, 12 rds through it and last year a CZ P07 (@ full retail $542) which has 500+ rds through it and is my current carry. I'd like to think I'm done but 2022 is young. Joe
