Yes my friends,
I have enough to tie me over during this time of crisis.
As in the words of George Bailey:
Quote:
Potter's not selling...he buying!
Why?!?!
We're panicking and he's not!
We can get through this thing if we just stick together!

Please know that I am not wanting to trivialize that sentence up there, but after watching the prices of ammunition, presses and components on the auction sites...I am bewildered and disenfranchised. I am so distraught that I think I may have to start posting stuff on said auction sites.
I just received a target model 1858 Remington in Stainless, and two more cylinders to go with it.
Now, I have a wonderful brace of these pistols- a brace that any Confederate cavalry raider would have been proud of- plenty of caps (one case), powder and pure lead to shoot.
Now, I just have to buy a dishwasher so I can just take out the nipples and drop the cylinders in there for a cycle. (I don't usually like dishwashers for dishes, but it's be great for this purpose.)
Perhaps a Smith carbine in my future?
After all, you can still purchase black powder in 25lb. lots for about $11 per pound delivered, and there is plenty of it.

Hmmm, and the original .45 Colt load was BP wasn't it?

Got my new AH magazine today and they tried BP in the 45acp. It did not work well. Velocity was very low and the cases would not eject.

No, I wouldn't think it would work in a .45ACP too well...
But it's perfect for Army's, Navy's, Walkers, and Dragoons!
Or your blunderbuss or Howdah pistol!
How come no one is making a two barreled blunderbuss in roughly .69-.72 caliber?? I guess it really isn't effective any more.
But this .69 smoothbore catches my eye for fun:
Or, how about a nice 20 gauge double pistol?

I have been shooting my muzzleloaders more and more. There was a time when I mostly shot ML's for pleasure. It takes some time and a bit of skill to load and shoot each shot with a ML, particularly a traditional gun. Many cartridges can be loaded with black powder! .38 spl, .44 spl, .45 Colt, .45/70 and many others can be loaded with BP and they work well. I wouldn't feel too naked with a loaded brace of cap and ball revolvers.

There were those three 13" seige mortars in a previous thread.
Here's where you can buy them, some parrot rifles, or just about anything- including shells- if you have the cash!

Sir, you'll save money on cleaning solvent, too. Hot water's a lot cheaper than Hoppe's No. 9.
Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Where's a decent place to by BP on line. No one seems to stock it locally. $11/lb sounds like a real nice price. Add HazMat (20$..?) on top of that for the shipment?
FWIW I loaded 45acp with American Pioneer for use in my Webley Mk1 top break revolver that had been converted from 455 to 45acp. Worked out fine. I shot more than few of those loads in an old Colt 1911A1 and they worked fine too. Cycled the action, etc. Am/Pioneer doesn't foul like BP so it doesn't mess up the mechanics of a revolver (or auto ).
But for my up and coming Flintlock rifle build, I'll be needin' the real stuff.

www.Powderinc.com
Goex in 25lb. lots from them is $13.10ea.
(freight and Haz-mat prepaid!) Mix and match granulations!
I ordered some of the new Brazilian powders,
Dimondback brand. They said it's just fine, and at $10. per pound prepaid, I can't go wrong.
($250. total, including shipping and hazmat!)
The only thing you do have to do is fill out a form and send them a copy of your DL- to make certain that you are...you.
Now, as they told me, you cannot mix and match any brands of powder that comes in a different size or shape of can than any other powder.
In other words, the cases are made to fit one style of can or the other.

My category when shooting CAS is Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter. All shotshells and all the 44-40s for my rifle and pistols are loaded with the smokey stuff. Ya can't see the targets after the first shot, but ya can't have this much fun shooting anything else! A smokewagon in each hand, blazing away with both at the same time (or very close to the same time!), and choking the rest of the posse with that sweet smoke.
I do love my Walker Colt repros. One of these days, I am going to shoot a match with them. They will have to time me with a calendar though!
Thanks for the link on the BP deal. I saved it to my favorites.

I read the article in "American Handgunner" about trying BP in the .45ACP.
Just how much BP can a .45ACP cartridge hold? Allowing room to set the bullet, it can't be very much, 10-15grs maybe?

I'm glad I could put some fellers onto "the good stuff!"
Now, everyone else that don't have one, has to go buy a couple of cap n' ball revolvers.
On second thought...don't.
That way they stuff in this category can stay available.
therevjay,
I would think that .45ACP would shoot just fine with black powder, but I wouldn't use it in a 1911. After all, the .455 family of cartridges all started as black powder. It would "shoot" ok with lead, but function is another story.

And y'all laughed at me when I bought my Ruger Old Army. (and for $399 NIB yet!) Try finding one of those babys now-if you do-they are north of $500. I also had the foresight to order an extra nipple wrench and 12 extra nipples from Ruger too.
Plus-that bugger is F-U-N to shoot
