Cool car though.

Also, consider that West Germany produced this car 10 years after being totally destroyed and devastated by WWII.
That's pretty impressive as well.

Wow! That’s a bunch of Bucks, Euros, Marks, etc.
Just found out it got a Straight 8 engine!
Like a Buick! The other 300SLs have 6s.
Now that we have all the Car Guys grouped up, what is this?
Looked, didn’t see any name anywhere.
Body looks slick and well formed.
Inside has a kind of a kit- homemade look.

Possibly the closest we'll ever get to that is the recent sale of Ulysses S. Grant’s Remington Revolvers for $5.17M

I'm guessing you don't find those in the cheap corner at Carmax.

Beautiful Mercedes! Something about those gull-wing cars fascinates me.
Cars like that are so far out of my league, it's silly to contemplate, but . . . . If I were the high rolling buyer, I'd probably drive that Mercedes. My guns aren't safe queens; my cars aren't garage queens. Carroll Shelby said of his creations: "These cars are meant to be driven." I think he was spot on!

Gods own chariot ain't worth that. Silly people with bottomless bank accounts.
With that kind of money I'd buy a race track and invite my friends to come over and have fun..and supply all new C8 Corvettes...and still have millions left over. I guess it's all about what spins your wheels..

That reminds me, is Earl Scheib still painting any car, any color for $29.95. No ups, no extras?...My old Dodge flatbed is starting to look a little shabby, and I didn't spend all that Covid money the government sent me yet, so... ...Ben

A friend's father in my neighborhood masked off his 58 Pontiac, sanded and primed some trouble spots and took it in to the local Earl Scheib, and the results were pretty impressive. It was the only car I ever saw that I knew for sure had been done by Scheib.

Nope...
I had a car painted in January, and the local Maaco quoted me almost $3000 for a non-metallic color. No body work, and I was going to bring the car in with everything disassembled. I ended up having a local independent shop do the job, with some added custom touches, for just a little more.

Earl Scheib's operation was great, for that $29.95 they would even mask off your 3/4" chrome with 1/2" masking tape...
What a bargain....

Do it yourself. Lay it on heavy and wet sand the heck out of it. Lol that’s how we did it in high school.

I have actually done my own paintwork before on both cars and bikes, but after considering the matrix of cost/time/effort/lack of a proper facility/desired results, I elected to pay a professional on this job. And no regrets in doing so.

The buyer probably already has a race track, dozens of other cars, and millions left over.

When I was in high school I had a friend who bought an old VW Beetle to turn into a Baja Bug. First order of business was to strip the paint -- Sears latex housepaint that the prior owner had applied with a roller. It actually didn't look too bad, considering.

If you have $$$$, lots of things are possible.
My father, being a Doctor, knew a friend that had a cabin at South Lake Tahoe.
My brother and I would go out and catch 2-3 limits of wild trout for him and his family, to enjoy
and in return, get to go water sking with his custom wood grained, Christ Craft, inboardboat.
In the driveway, there was a very clean and polished Silver "Gull Wing".
Owners of Construction companies, also do well, for bringing in the coins.

I always thought the production version of the 300SL Gullwing was sexy-gorgeous. That 300SLR Gullwing prototype is just over the top Victorias Secret gorgeous. It puts the Ferrari 250GT to shame in the looks department.
