Found these by accident. When I went to get the mail today I saw two of these on the bank behind the mailbox. I climbed up to the top of the bank and found the rest.

So THAT'S where I left my $20.
Ok, I'll go ahead and ask, what are they?

If it ever warms up here we may get some this year. It has been damp so far, and we had a few good wildfires, so they should be popping up all over.

Dried, at my local upscale market, the value of the of the fungi far exceeds the denomination of the currency...

I grew up in Michigan and I love looking for them, but I don't care if I eat them or not. I always feel slightly ill afterwards.

Good haul!
Here is my payload from the other night. This was a good night, but we usually get this many in 2 or 3 days.

Morel Mushrooms, these are commonly called Yellow Sponge. They are the last come up for the year. We have checked all of our regular spots several times and have not found the first one and then I stumbled into these by the mailbox???? These are definitely some of the largest I have found. They weighed just over 5 pounds and are selling for $20.00 plus a pound locally. But we plan to have these for supper. Might have to try stuffing a couple of the bigger ones and baking them.
