Is everyone sick of Camp Lejeune legal ads?
Locally, there are two cable TV channels showing nothing but those Lejeune ads 24/7. I saw something new today, offering any local lawyers access to national TV advertising for their services. They run the usual cancer scare TV ads with an 800 call-in number. Based on the source area code where the incoming calls originate, they are immediately transferred to some lawyer near the call source. I haven’t seen anything like that used before.

Got to be a serious amount of money involved the lawyers are popping up like grass in the spring. I have see at least 6 different outfits looking for what they call protecting your interests!
Funny they make most of the money and the sick person gets pennies in most of that class action nonsense!

Just google “Camp Lejeune” and see how many pages of lawyer ads come up. And from what I have read, a lawyer is not needed to file a claim against the government, and engaging one may greatly slow down getting any benefits due. So you go to a lawyer to file a claim for you, and the lawyer gets maybe a third or more of whatever your award might be, and it may take years to get it.

I would like to get an unbiased account of what actually happened and why it took so long to find out there was a problem.

Sad state of affairs when lawyers get too lazy to chase ambulances. It’s a new world…saturate the media with fishing ads and the money just rolls in.
I had a football buddy in high school who went into the Marines and was stationed at Lejeune during that time. His son developed cancer at a young age, maybe from the water.

I have a camping / hunting friend that was at Camp Lejeune for awhile. My association with him might make me eligible for a cash reward because I didn't have problems with Toe Fungus until we started hunting together. I see millions ahead.

In the class action suits I've heard about or been in on, each of the people involved get $6 to $20 and the few lawyers that file it get millions.

Yes but I’d rather be sick of the ads instead of sick of what the ads are for.
There are many thousands of people that were affected by this in over 35 years on one of the busiest military bases we operate.
Frankly, I’m sick of most all commercials, especially Mike and his pillows, shoes, sheets, etc. mainly tired of his loud raspy delivery. He really needs to contract that job out to someone with a more pleasant voice.

Mike can stuff his pillows where the sun don’t shine as far as I care. His ads are way more annoying than even the class action lawsuit ads.

Mike and his pillows, etc., have a new problem involving the Justice Dept. Perhaps a ploy for more notoriety, but getting subpoenaed at the Hardee’s drive through has gotta do something for his rep…

I knew about it in the mid-90s. It was no secret. I am certain many others knew all about it long before I did.

As to annoying commercials they bother me not at all as I have mastered this:

True, but contrary to what most people assume, these types of suits are typically NOT actually class-action suits.

Like all the other ads, I just use my selective hearing, and tune them out.
Ask Mrs QD67. She'll vouch my selective hearing is very good

Because it said so in the ad. The ad was directed toward lawyers, not injured parties. And the lawyers pay for the service. Technically it does not seem that it would too difficult to do, but I am ignorant of the details
I also believe that the whole mess is NOT a class action suit, at least at present. I read something to the effect that what the lawyers do is file damage claims on behalf of individuals with the government and represent clients regarding any disputes about the claims. Generally in a class action lawsuit, one attorney or law firm represents all plaintiffs.
As I mentioned earlier, individuals are free to file claims themselves without engaging a lawyer to do it. I suppose many are afraid to do that because they fear it is too complicated and they will screw it up. At least that is what the lawyers hope.

It seems like the only ad’s on TV now are for Camp Lejeune, home title theft, and politicians. I miss the days of quality TV, with ads for Bartles & James wine coolers, “Freedom Rock” LP’s, Joe Isuzu, and lawyer ad’s featuring Robert Vaughn. You can’t imagine my disappointment in finding out Napoleon Solo wouldn’t actually be representing me in court.
A friend of mine is actually looking into what he is eligible for regarding Camp Lejeune, since he was stationed there in the 60’s. He is working with our county Veterans Assistance office as opposed to a shyster from Dewey, Cheatem and Howe.

Just because there is a magic date on TV when the issue was "discovered" doesn't mean that people didn't know there was a problem before that. I say this having heard some scary Crown Immunity stories from my father's time in the UK Civil Service. The fact that it took an act of congress to allow claims tells me the US has a similar scheme.
A good example in the UK that you can read showing the difference between official and public knowledge can be found here. Windscale fire - Wikipedia

There must be a ton of money involved here, because the ads are very frequent, and many are lengthy. Air time is expensive

Most certainly when you also figure the families and civilian workers.
I think we might as well scrap that 80 billion dollars for the IRS and redirect to this.

Before this, it was asbestos and faulty military ear protection. Now it's bad water and cancer causing talcum powder. Tomorrow it'll be something else, sure as the sun rises in the East. Barristers need that new Jaguar.

These suits affect every taxpayer, for a lonnnngggggg time, as they're dragged out for more money.
I've gotten a letter and a phone call from the VA this year about Agent Orange class action suits. I did join in 1970 when the war was hopping, but the closest I ever got to Vietnam was the island of Guam, in 1976 after the war ended.
I told the nice VA guy who called all this, and asked why they were contacting me, since they had those records. He said court cases kept expanding the definition of in theatre, and who had to be contacted.

Every other ad on Youtube is for this, showing what looks like a 40-something grunt taking a swig from a canteen. Weird choice of images.
Maybe eventually we'll learn that our government lies to us about pretty much everything.

Our system continues where juries decide when deals cannot be cut without the discount expedient of some form of despotism.

Seems to me this is a scam. Why not have a special master like they did with the 9/11 payouts. Let them decide what and how much someone gets compensated.

I'm pretty sure that every military base I was ever on had contaminated water, which is why I usually drank beer. I have seen several of these attorney commercials and some have from 1950 to 1983 and some from 1953 to 1987 you would think they could at least get the dates right.

I have a neighbor who worked at Rocky Flats for decades. He has late stage Parkinson’s,most likely from that job.
Back in the 80s during the oil bust a friend talked about closing his shop and taking a job there. I think it paid $15/hr. Even then we had our doubts about that place.
There are housing developments going up on the south end of that long closed plants property now with plenty of assurance that it’s safe.
Yeah….NO!

All you folks in that area were very lucky that the FBI raided that place when they did. The first 90 degree elbow of the glovebox vent system had enough plutonium settled out of the airstream to go critical. All because the glovebox mechanics poked screwdrivers through the HEPA filters, instead of changing them out when they clogged.
