New Chevelle SS
I think the model is 70 Chevelle SS for 2022/23. The bottom feeder base is a 5.3 Liter 460 HP: $150,000. The top is a supercharged 454 C.I. 1500 HP. It's one thing sneaking a $475 piece of blued steel with handles wrapped in Walnut into the house; driving a rumbling earthquake into the garage just might peak her curiosity a bit. And probably pick off a few neighbors!
I need to learn more. Anybody have one yet?

I dearly love to have one but I passed up my chance for a Chevelle SS 396 back in 1967.
I now drive this
289 V-8 4 bbl, 271 HP.

I don't need to get to Cracker Barrel that quickly. Besides, I'm pretty certain my next conveyance will be electric.

At that price will it fit in at a deer camp back in the boonies? How many bucks will it carry back to town? Just wondering.

So are we talking about a full frame-off restoration of 1970 Chevelle SS's for sale in various configurations as a "new" car?
I hadn't heard or seen anything about these being made available.

In my opinion, along with the 63' split window Vette, 60's styling at it's best. Beauty!

OK, so not an actual 1970 Chevelle SS, but rather another "reimagined" modern version of a classic muscle car.
Pretty cool, and as retro-rods go, a lot more true to the style of the original than most.
I LIKE IT!

Nice! I appreciate a Chevy kinda like I appreciate Colts. I'm really a Ford guy; a GT350 sort. Kinda like I'm a Smith and Wesson guy.
Chevy and Colts are nice. But Ford and Smith & Wesson for the win!

It's painful to look at the rear end of it.
I think Dodge did a great job bringing back Challenger, and Ford did okay with the Mustang, but Chevy dropped the ball with the Camaro, and the Chevelle.

I saw an Electric 4 door Mustang the other day for the first time. The only way that design will grow on you is if you are susceptible to fungus! YUCK

Looks to me like wealthy corporate America catering to wealthy America. Joe Average is not going to be buying them.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i had a 70 chevelle, it was the first car i bought when i was discharged from the army.
i like the look of the one being discussed here but there's no way i will ever be able to own one.
i also had a 68 z28 camaro that i sold when i came home on my first leave after being drafted a couple years earlier.
wish i still had both of them but those days are long gone and now they're just fond memories.

A good friend has a Mustang GT, 460 HP. He was cruising along at around 25 MPH and he punched it just because! No other vehicles around. He broke contact with the road, shot over to the opposite lane then back across and missed a utility pole "by the grace of his maker!" He won't do that again!
I got to drive the car the day after he brought it home. I was very impressed, to say the least. That's all the power I would want, not being a professional driver.
Those new Chevelles are priced way too high. Don't understand it. But, I'd still like to get one...for one day!

My old, Red & white, K5 Blazer was a great rig for climbing Nevada hills and going over 11" boulders, without a riser kit, just stock, in my quest, after deer.
The only rig that I drove that did better in "Big boulder" , steep hill climes, was my father's old 4 banger, jeep, but it could only do 52 mph.

Looks like a very cool car, but at $150K for the base model, I'm gonna pass...
(I think the base price of the new, mid-engine Corvette is something like $65K... Now that's a very reasonable price for that car if you've got some extra bucks for a nice toy!)

Like other current so-called Sport Utility Vehicles, the so-called "Blazer" has lousy rear vision and a down sloping rear end that looks like it was swatted with the flat of a giant shovel, decreasing the rearward vision and much diminishing the utility of the cargo space. Many of the current SUV's also have a substantial narrowing of the vehicle from shoulder height up, and a rear hatch too small to load anything but a flour sack or suitcase.
All this is a nod to appeasing the Federal mpg standards and to heck with actual Utility.

If I was going to spend over 100k on a vehicle it sure as hell wouldn't be a new Chevy. Not even sure I would spend that on a Corvette. I would rather buy 3 really good all purpose vehicles than 1 of just about anything. Even if I won the powerball I would have a tough time spending that kinda dough on 1 car. I am not one of those that spends a S%$t ton of $$ on a gun or a car and then just not shoot it or drive it. If I buy it I use it.

The pictured Chevelle is certainly not a looker, but a step ahead of the Corvette in that area and also a bit better than anything from Ford or Dodge. It seems people's tastes in cars these days is similar to their tastes in modern films, a reason there are so many bad movies.
I couldn't figure what was really said in the original post, but after reading what followed much of it became clear.

Been there done that. The ragtop got old after awhile. Regardless how many HP the new one has, it's still a 'reproduction".

I think it's important to understand that this isn't being offered by Chevrolet. It's made at a shop called Trans Am Worldwide, who buys Camaros and rebuilds them into "Trans Ams" and "Chevelles". Factor in the cost of the base car and the extensive body and engine mods, and the price isn't out of line. Remember when AMG and Mercedes were separate? The AMGs were much more money than a standard Mercedes. Let's see how they hold their value compared to an actual '70 Chevelle SS.

I don't know why car so many photographers think that we view cars from the eye level of a Labrador. That angle can make a good looking car look "meh". That said, the rear end of that car has a major paint/rear light area mismatch.

In February of 1985 I bought my first car. A 1970 Chevelle. Red with black interior and black vinyl top. Sadly it was not an SS. But it was the right color combo. Had a 307 2bbl which produced a whopping 200 hp. It was only a Malibu but I’d pay a lot of money to have that car back.

You are correct.
Probably a good reason why in its 4th year of production, there is still a 9 month + wait for your order to go to the assembly line.
All of them still selling at MSRP or higher.

The first new vehicle I ever bought was a 1973 K5 Blazer. Back then, the top, passenger seat, rear seat and heater were all optional, not to mention auto trans, a/c, radio, etc.
Here's a picture of it stuck in some mud:

Unfinished rear end aside, I like it. Of coarse I would have to take out a 20 year loan.

It seems like a cool car, but for $150,000 I could buy six or seven really nice original old cars. I’d rather have the variety for that much money. A ‘70 Chevelle would be on the list if I bought six or seven more cars.

"I couldn't figure what was really said in the original post,"
So sorry about that; I really could've been much clearer, but it was late and I usually read a post before I hit the GO button.
I got wife one of those Trailblazers as shown above, same color, only the roof isn't white. It's all the same. And, I posted about her car after we got it: 3 cylinders of full all out power!!!
Trouble with that new Chevelle is I don't see a trailer hitch! Well, I cancelled my order for that reason!!

I like the 'Chevelle', except for the windshield resting on my forehead. I cannot stand driving a claustrophia inducing vehicle like that.

Couldn't afford the Chevelle new in 1971 making $1.60/hr, can't afford it now. Maybe the .gov will buy it for me to promote equity. I'll start the grant proposal now. Joe

I couldn't agree more. Just like my taste in guns. I prefer 3 or 4 shooters for the price of one safe queen.
Likewise I'd choose the option of 4 or 5 older vehicles of various styles and types for the cost of one of these new 70/SS retro-rods.
No matter how cool I think they are.

Here's a picture of it stuck in some mud:

Mine was "Moss Tone" (baby vomit green) and came with a white hard top. which I replaced with a white rag top, which I replaced with a black hard top. I had it buried to the floorboards a couple of times! A 2" lift kit, engine modifications, 10" rims and 32" Gumbo Monster Mudders, and a Warn 4 ton winch, kept me moving in locations that everyone else was stuck in!
Ivan
(My current Silverado is 3 or 4" factory lifted and has 33x11.5x 20 tires, and hasn't needed a winch yet!)

I don't like the windshield coming too far back because of the Sun. I'm often accused of wanting a "Tiger Tank" view out because I always have the visors lowered. A direct view of the sky and street lights is of no use to seeing down the road.

Could this be for the Asian market? I read where China has enough rich people that companies like BMW are catering to them, which is why they have the giant cartoon grille on some models. The buyers want it to be seen from far away.
