While perusing the seldom seen pre-loaded channels on our latest smart tv I stumbled onto...the Dragnet channel! The episodes I've seen are from 1953 so at least for now it's the original series. It is interesting to see the way things were written and filmed 70 years ago - everyone is smoking, deadly serious and look much older than they probably were. Jack Webb was 33 in 1953 but looks like he's in his 50's. Anyway, it's both corny and cool, and I find it enjoyable. My wife just smiles and shakes her head, but I tend to get that a lot these days.

Nice! I’ve got hundreds (?) of channels I don’t watch either. Maybe I’ll look for The Dragnet Channel.

I like a lot of the old shows, just to see what they wore back then and the hair styles.

Todays modern tie has enough fabric to make three, of the 1970's,
don't you know?

Like, Cool, man.

I watched Dragnet when it was new material, long before reruns. Good the first time around, but it hasn't aged well, like many programs from that era.

The early Dragnet episodes must have been filmed on a shoestring-thin budget. Few or no action sequences, no special effects, mainly just dialog, and very plain interior sets. But then most every early TV series was much the same regarding low production values.

When they were filmed originally, most TV shows were pretty cheaply and crudely done, but we didn't know it at the time because we had nothing to compare them to. We were just thankful to have TV. Years later when TV improved, the differences between modern shows and the old ones were glaring.

Believe it or not, Desi Arnaz is credited as being the main driving force behind bringing television series production methods into the modern age, and about every series today still uses his formulas and methods.

If you look it up, there were multiple dozens of police/detective/crime TV series aired during the 1950s in addition to Dragnet. The great majority of them are long forgotten, and do not exist in any form that can be viewed today. I always liked Boston Blackie, Highway Patrol, and Peter Gunn.

Yeah. I liked Broderik Crawford in Highway Patrol.....Cars with the old "bubble gum" machines on top.

I watched Peter Gunn again in the past couple of years. I think I initially watched them on Amazon Prime, and then later on YouTube. I think that's a really good show.
