what was the name of the mini series with Robert Duvall
It wasn't actually presented as a movie I don't think. Robert Duvall and friends are taking a herd of horses to be sold to the Army. They encounter a group of Asian women who end up joining the troop. I really liked it but can't remember the title. If you've seen it I'm sure you would remember it (if not the title).

Excellent movie. It is one of Ruthie's favorites as well because of the tenderness shown by Prent and Tom.

Probably our favorite Robert Duvall movie is “Secondhand Lions.” I don’t remember ever seeing it anywhere on TV. But we did have a VHS tape of it, viewed it at least four times.

I don't recall ever seeing a Duval movie that I didn't enjoy and the list is a lengthy one.
This stays in my movie playlist.

One of my favorites too. Had the DVD out not long ago and my oldest son happened to notice it. So I let him borrow it. He loved it too.

Second Hands Lions.
The truck driver who delivered the Lions is a well known a Texas Singer-Songwriter.
AKA The Wacko from Waco.
He and Duval were Buddies.

The Great Santini was an early example of Duvall's abilities. Worth looking for.
Second Hand Lions remains a favorite here at home.
Don't forget The Godfather, Duvall played Tom the family consiglieri.
Seemed to develop his personal best as Gus in Lonesome Dove. Broken Trail was excellent. Open Range was another of his western-themed hits.
So many excellent performances. One of the few that I always thought would be great to just spend an afternoon with and sharing a few beers.

He was pretty good in Falling Down. He was one of those rare actors who could make any film he was in watchable. ****** script? Bad cast? Didn't matter. He was going to be worth watching. Case in point: Days of Thunder.

I hadn't seen "Second Hand Lions" until one of my sons called and told me about it. "Dad," he said. "You've got to watch 'Second Hand Lions.' Those two old guys in it remind me exactly of you and Uncle Kevin."
No doubt about it, Duvall is an excellent actor. And from what I've read, he's great to work with, too, unlike many of the prima donnas in today's show business world.

Open Range is one of the few movies that I've ever viewed that kept me glued to the screen the first time I saw it.
Especially the ending.
Duvall at his absolute best. Church's character carried the story well.

Another obscure off beat movie done by Mr. Duvall is: "Get Low". Very intense character acting and very well done.
I have a young lady friend (almost like a niece) that lives in DC and has met Mr. Duvall several times at USMC events. She said he is very kind and very much a Gentleman.

Had a prob getting ‘Get Low.’
I usually claim that eventually I figure out most everything, except of course Women and a cure for cancer.
Another weird one - Assassination Tango .
‘John J. (Robert Duvall) is a seasoned hit man sent on a job to Argentina. When the general he's sent to kill delays his return to the country, John passes the time with Manuela (Luciana Pedraza), a beautiful dancer who becomes his teacher and guide into Argentina's sensual world of the tango.’

Broken Trail is a wonderful movie. The plot, acting, and costuming make it well worth watching. But to gun guys like us the fact that their Win. 66 is missing its front sight, matters.

I think about him in this part because I played Sheriff Heck Tate in a stage production of "To Kill a Mockingbird" in Frederick, MD.

Forgot to mention- Robert produced-directed Tango and his co-star is his Wife.
‘In 2005, Duvall married his fourth wife, Luciana Pedraza, granddaughter of Argentine aviation pioneer Susana Ferrari Billinghurst.[48] He met Pedraza in Argentina, recalling, "The flower shop was closed, so I went to the bakery. If the flower shop had been open, I never would've met her."[49] They were both born on January 5, but Duvall is 41 years older.[50] They have been together since 1997. He produced, directed, and acted with her in Assassination Tango, with the majority of filming in Buenos Aires. Duvall is also known as a very skilled Argentine tango dancer, having a tango studio in Argentina and in the United States.’

Thanks... I was looking to see if anyone would mention the missing front sight ... Church's character is lining up a precise aim down his rifle to shoot the bad guy and save Duvall's life (and manhood) at the end of the movie. We are looking down the front of his lever gun up close as he slowly settles in to take careful aim and squeeze off that one precise shot. There is ZIP ZERO and NONE for a FRONT SIGHT ! .... but ... It's a great movie anyway

But...it's true to the book. In the book, Tom's rifle does not have a front sight. I noticed that in the movie, too, and thought, "What the heck??!!"...then happened to read the book. Yep, nephew Tom's rifle was missing the front sight. Most movies would've probably let that go, but Robert Hill, the director of Broken Trail , is apparently a stickler for details and made sure it was true to the book.

Never seen Duvall in a stinker, he knocked it out of the park in Lonesome Dove..."We don't rent pigs." One of my personal favorites is The Great Santini.
