Default A Welcome Guest!

The Mrs spotted this tree frog on our garage door under the overhang in the shade around noon. He's about 2" long and looks well fed!

A Welcome Guest!-img_4811-jpg

I opened the door several times and he must not have appreciated the ride. He moved to the frame and is still hanging out almost 7 hours later. Keep chowing down on skeeters Buddy!

They sure make a lot of noise after dark during mating season.

Years ago a lady friend of my wife, let out a small yell, while she was taking a shower up at the Tahoe cabin.
When she finished and came out in her robe, she told us that she just happened to look up at the top of the shower
and she saw TWO tree frogs , looking down at her, as she showered.

All parties were safe and sound, but had a little faster heart rate.

They like to go down the septic vents in the roof and come up in the toilets. Nothing like an o'dark-thirty scream from the wife.

We have tree frogs in the front pond and bullfrogs in the back. Better roommates than any human I've lived with.

I saw this frog on my garbage can one day, and took a picture of it. Posted it on a local FaceBook group and everyone said I should have killed it.

It's a Cuban Tree Frog. It was too late, but I did read this.

"What should I do if I find a Cuban treefrog?
Capture & Humane Euthanization. Because this invasive treefrog poses a significant threat to native treefrogs and causes many other problems, UF/IFAS recommends you capture and humanely euthanize Cuban treefrogs. You can also reduce Cuban treefrog impacts by eliminating their eggs and potential breeding sites."

I am 62 years old, and have been hearing tree frogs most of my life, but I had never seen one before today. Granted, I never searched for them on the internet either. Thanks for sharing.

Great. So how do you humanely euthanize a Cuban tree frog? Simple. Like this!

The native frogs were lovely little things about half the size of the Cubans. Pretty much gone.
I did have one launch from the rosette of a bromeliad as I leaned over while trimming. I did not scream as I choked when that cold, wet little body stuck to my bare chest.

Saw one recently at the park that Mom used to work at with her Master Naturalist friends before her dementia got too bad. I still take her out there when the weather is good enough.
