I was in my local purveyor of firearms and accessories early in the afternoon of the day before I purchased my M&P AR15. This was in January. One of the guys behind the counter was telling everyone that he had one 1,000 round box of Federal brass cased .223 ammo left and that it wouldn't last long at the price, $119. Well, the next morning as I was rushing back to the location to make my AR purchase, I was thinking that there was no way that box of ammo would still be there. I was wrong as it had not been moved from its location. I immediately moved it to the counter and told the guy I'd be back to pay for it as soon as I picked out my AR.
I think the cheapest 1,000 round box of brass cased .223 ammo I've seen lately was $287.

The going rate these days for brass cased .223 is actually somewhere around 400 bucks per 1000. Anything less than that is a good deal.

I'd be happy to pay $287 for a case. The cheapest I've seen locally was $450 for a case of PMC.

My opinion and it's worth what you paid: if it's .223 and for sale, buy. Folks, you ain't seen nuthin' yet.
