Just proves that Hollyweird has run out of ideas for movies. They keep remaking old movies, because of the lack fresh ideas. Sad as the originals was usually a great movies.

I watched it yesterday as well. I've been sidelined by the Dr. and didn't have anything to do.
To put things in the proper perspective, I'll start off with version 1. I felt the first 2/3rds of it was OK. Not Oscar material, but entertaining. The last 1/3rd was just this side of dismal.
With that in mind, version 2 was lacking all around. The main character was as believable as John Wayne was when cast as Genghis Khan. The plot line was marginally better than the first, but that's about the only area it beat the original in. The action was OK, but very unbelievable at times, especially at the end. I guess if you're given the choice between watching it and reruns of Gilligan's Island, you might consider it unless there's some paint drying somewhere that needs to be watched.

Anything Jake Gyllenhaal does will just be Brokeback Mountain 2.0.

Started watching it last night. Made the first 45 minutes and had to watch something else that was interesting. Couldn't find anything, so I went to bed. They really did go hollywierd woke on this one, and that Jake Gyllenhaal or whoever ain't Patrick Swayze, or even close. Same kind of blazee story line, No real actors of merit. Might try to watch some more tonight.

Watched it last night. Not as good as original. Jake is kind of snarky throughout it. He is ripped, though. Really ripped.

The original is one of my favorites. I got about half way through the first remake before I shut it down. About as bad a remake as I have ever seen. I will give the new version a look but I don't expect much.

Watched it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good entertainment for me. My wife was only partially in attendance!

Ok, I watched it. Gotta admit, it was much better than I expected it to be. Not bad, but still a long way from good with a completely predictable story.
The trick is to totally forget its a remake and look at it as its own stand alone movie. Then, instead of it being a terrible remake, it becomes a so-so action flick.
It wasn't bad. I actually liked it to some degree. I don't regret watching it, but I won't watch it again.

I actually enjoyed it too. I think Conor McGregor came very close to stealing the show. I was not expecting a Shakespearian level tragedy, and was not disappointed.

Doubt if I will watch it any time soon. I dislike remakes. It took me a bit over 10 years to watch Jeff Bridges's version of True Grit. I still have not watched the remake of Red Dawn. If they didn't do it right the first time, then they won't do it right the second time. So why bother....

There are a lot of good remakes - the Steve McQueen version of The Magnificent Seven is a remake of Seven Samurai, the Bogart version of The Maltese Falcon is a remake of an earlier version, the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga version of A Star is Born is the fourth version and my favorite, and the Coen take on True Grit is fantastic.
Of course the real problem with remakes is attendance is mandatory and watching the originals again is strictly forbidden.

I don't appreciate remakes, especially when there was nothing wrong with the original. I just passed up on a new "Vanishing Point" last night.

Just finished watching it with Logan. I put preconceived notions aside and let the story take us where it will. We both enjoyed it.
Logan's synopsis: "Damn! Those dudes are jacked!"

As far as watching the movie, I stopped 2 nights age and planned to finish last night. I finished the movie last night. Sorry but I had to fast forward through some parts. Tried to finish before the vomit. Like Swayze said. "Opinions Vary."

I was feeling old when the first one came out. I had 20 years in the Corps at that time..... Could still pass a USMC Physical Fitness Test though.

Why all the hostility?
Watched the new version the other night and enjoyed it. Gyllenhaal nails the Dalton character. Take a look and just relax and go with it. No one ever took the first one serious so why fuss about the sequel? I'll watch it again just like I keep watching the original... both are probably two of the best, really bad movies ever... and way too much fun.

At the risk of being called a heretic, I agree with you on True Grit. The Coen brothers make great movies and are one of the few bright spots in entertainment these days.

Well, after some of the responses i read I didn't expect much. With no Swazey, no Sam Elliot, and no Jeff Healy band ...and epically after the dismal first remake I didn't think it would be very good. Actually it was good, just not AS good as the original. Those of you that keep up with all the MMA UFC stuff on youtube are no doubt familiar with Connor McGregor, the bad boy of the martial arts world. I don't like him but he can fight and he can take a punch. I don't think they could have found anyone better for that character...but I sure would NOT like to face him in the ring!!

I did not realize who the bad guy fighter was until after the show, but I thought McGregor played the role perfectly. Way over the top in keeping with the comic book style of the movie.
Great fun!
(Now my wife, on the other hand, peeked in briefly to see what I was watching and promptly went off to bed.)

I don't think McGregor was doing a whole lot of acting. From what I have seen, that is only a slight exaggeration of his personality.

Well, FWIW, that movie made enough of an impression on me that I still remember it over 50 years later.
I'd watch a remake of it...

I was 10 when I saw Billy Jack and remember it well just hadn't realized until years later during a rewatch just how godawful a movie. Haven't seen the Road House remake so can't say if MacGregor could pull off a Billy Jack and don't know really if anyone could, just have to think who I'd like to see in a pit getting nailed by a rattlesnake a few times

I watched it. I liked it. Jake did a good job of being believable as the reluctant hero. The doc was hot. The supporting actors gave it substance. But Conor McGregor? He STOLE the show!! What a hoot!

I watched it. It was free (or included with Prime), and was worth every penny I paid.
Definitely won't make my top 10 list, but really no worse than most of the new movies being made now.
