If you're asking for a buttermilk substitute, place one tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar in a one cup measure. Fill to one cup mark with regular milk and let sit for five minutes. Use for buttermilk in any recipe. I don't think plain milk would give the correct flavor to the recipe.

1. Get in your car.
2. Drive to WallyWorld.
3. Go to the dairy section of the grocery.
4. Pickup buttermilk, cash out, go home, enjoy!
It's just easier that way guys!

This is for the real thing: cultured buttermilk
http://biology.clc.uc.edu/fank...heese/BUTTERMILK.HTM
you start with some real buttermilk as a starter, just like making yogurt.

As has already been posted. I TBSP of lemon juice or white viniger mixed with a cup of milk and let stand 15 minutes or so makes a good substitute for bakeing.
As far as drinking the stuff go's, I would save that for captured terrorists and pirates. Since the beloved leader has forbade 'waterboarding'.

To speed things up, you can put the milk/lemon juice mixture in the microwave and heat it until it curdles.
