I'll bet I'm not the only one that has no clue what that is about.

No doubt about the SQUATTER phenomenon sweeping the country. But I don’t get it.

Bell AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter. Introduced during the Vietnam war and still used by the Marines today. Quite awesome to watch them engage a target.

So the picture is "Nose Art" from a Huey Cobra procured by the U.S. Army in 1968. What is that supposed to mean to any of us? I am a Viet Nam era veteran.

Actually I think the Cobra gunship would be a good way to handle squatters in your house. They are going to trash the place anyway so you might as well put a couple 17 pounders on the place.
For the Vietnam veterans who never interacted with the VC or the peasants, this is how they sit (usually on the ground and not a log).
For those of you from Metamora, contact me. I'll explain it.

One had to be there to get the message. The LNs would “ squat” along any highway “ to do their business”. When working they would squat in the shops working on engines, transmissions or rear ends. They would also squat in a circle during lunch. Again one had to have been there….

Not to mention the air conditioned cockpit. I have 25 hours in the AH-1G running the minigun, moving down the nipa palm, and whatever was hiding in it.

When I was a kid, maybe up until my early 20s, I found that a comfortable way to sit outdoors. Has the advantage of not getting your butt/pants wet or dirty on the ground.
At one of my jobs at 18, I remember, outdoors on a rainy day, being tasked with writing prices on rows of flower pots stacked upside down, after unloading them from a truck, and sitting/squatting like that in front of each stack while I worked for most of a morning.
It's comfortable if you have the right body type and are flexible.
Ya do need to be fairly skinny, and I think it is easier for people with short legs. (I was skinny then, though with long legs.) It is a common way to sit outdoors in Asia, and I suspect in most places throughout the non overweight world. (AKA NOW.... )

I cannot decide if getting up and down from that position helps keeps your knees supple, or wears them out. I doubt it is a good thing for the average three days a week cheeseburger and fries chomping American.

They sit on their heels, their butt never touches the ground, they can do it forever.

I assumed the squat position a lot thru my 40's and 50's rather than kneel in the rocks and mud while working, I'd borrow a buddy's chunk of beach toy foam (boofy pad) if I had to go belly down. I still can but only for a few minutes at a time, a slow go getting up and a sore knee for a step or two.
