Default Allegro Update

I been very busy for the last month. I actually moved into my Allegro after my last thread. A very comical yet frustrating situation caused me to wash my hands with my fifth wheel and just move into my allegro. Amazingly the person that sold me my motorhome also was willing to let me rent the land it’s sitting on.
So I can work on it on my own pace. Living in a motorhome is a very unique experience. Even when it’s not running. By far the worst problem it has is it leaks at the tv antenna. But the roof is actually in good condition. So I’m just going to reseal the entire roof up when the weather gets warmer.
The reason the motorhome was for sale was because they couldn’t get it running. It managed to find and correct several problems quickly. Today I swapped the starter and got the motor spinning. It has air and spark. But no fuel. I found it’s gas tank and realized quickly that I was the chosen one. I am the man uniquely qualified to get this thing running. I saw a Napa universal fuel pump with almost literally the same rig work I was forced to correct on my old C30. Today I realized that my C30 I had to rewire was preparing me for this. I’m going to trace the wires and correct them Saturday. I bet based off my experience with my C30 these people probably rigged it straight to the battery somehow with out a relay or it’s own fuse. Saturday morning I will go to Napa and buy a relay and In-wire fuse and get this thing running.

Edit: The first repair just to get power was to clean all battery connections and grounds. I found that the reason for the starter not getting power was because there was something between the battery and everything else that’s no longer there. I have no clue what it was. I deleted it and that fixed most issues.
I also think it’s funny that a much older pump is still there.

I might replace the carburetor later considering how long it sat.

This seems like good therapy for you especially in light of all that has befallen you in the past.

I wish you success.

That would take years of therapy lol
Thank you though. I’m looking forward to getting this thing running. I’m going to be building my Cleveland soon also. The up cost of moving was pretty expensive.

Coming from England, Allegro means something different to me.

Allegro Update-allegro-jpg

It was known as the "All Aggro" to many because of the diabolical build quality at the Austin plant*. That was a shame because in many way it was an innovative vehicle with a lot of space inside and a robust engine and transmission. The hydrogas suspension gave a remarkable ride, even though it made odd noises at times.

* QC at the Austin plant was so bad it is alleged that a car made it out of the plant and onto a transporter before somebody noticed that it had two doors on one side (4-door side body pressing) but only one door on the other (2-door pressing).

The first thing that popped into my head...

Allegro is an Italian term meaning “fast, quickly, and bright.” It’s used in music to denote a tempo that is brisk and lively.

When a piece of music is marked as allegro, it should be played in a quick and lively manner, often conveying a sense of joy and spirited energy."

I spent 3 weeks at my mom's in southern Arizona living in an 8' x 22' camp trailer. I'm headed down again next week and I'll probably be living in it again - though this time for just 1 week.
Not exactly my first choice of living conditions - but I can make it work - for short periods.

My late brother had a large, well appointed camper that he let me use occasionally. Like Opie Taylor my kids called it adventure sleepin'.

I’m going to do some work on my allegro tomorrow. My goal is to get that old 454 running. It’s a shame that Austin Allegro had such an bad build quality. It looks like it could have been a fine car.
I lived in several RVs. A older camper that needed lots of work. But a 19 year old me didn’t care. I had a remodeled FEMA when I was 21-24. Then a fifth wheel from the last few months of my 20s to last month. The fema was my best camper. The fifth wheel was in the process of being remodeled when I bought it out of necessity and it’s location. It needed flooring and roof repairs. But it was fine. Actually, in a weird way my fifth wheel being mostly hollowed out was perfect for my wheelchair. I was able to move back in my fifth wheel in the last few weeks of me using my wheelchair. When I recovered enough to not need to be babysitted. My brother put a recliner in it for me and I had my tv set in the pop out. Learning to walk again was very easy inside it too. But I really didn’t want to invest money in it because I didn’t have a truck to pull it with. And I was not interested in buying or building another one ton truck. Especially since I’m making progress with my Torino. It’s amazing how everything is working out for me. I managed to buy a classic motorhome that was recently towed to land I was able to rent in short notice at the same time. At a time I really needed to move. That is God helping me out.

IMO, He will do just that if you ask Him to and put your trust in Him. Glad to hear it is working out so well for you.
