Those of us who didn't go will never be able to thank all those who did enough.

Thank you phulklip for bringing attention to that day. I lost a lot of friends over there and our numbers are growing smaller every day. Your remembrance means a lot to us.

Randy was KIA on my very last mission in Vietnam. We were searching for the Commander of the 1st Cav. Div. who went missing in the mountains of II Corps. Randy's helicopter was shot down that fateful day. The two pilots and crew chief survived The General's body was found in the wreckage of his UH-1. He was the highest ranking person to die in the war.
It will be 54 years ago in July. Rest in peace Randy.
I got back to The World a week later. One month after I left, my good friend Pat Fitzsimmon was shot down and was KIA. Rest in peace Fitz.

By that time the 1st Cav was mostly in III Corps, with some in the central highlands.

The sentiment is appreciated, but the words "happy" and "Vietnam veterans day" will always be difficult for some of us to connect with.
Long time ago.

It was a long time ago. The other day, while waiting for my turn at radiation therapy, there was a Korean war vet in the waiting room. They had his wheel chair right by the door and he was asking for someone to move him. My comment to him was just that. That was a long time ago. He nodded in the affirmative and I pushed him to a spot where he was happy. Instant bonding.
