Default Dental fun!

Failed implant

Started aching Saturday (of course)
Saw a dentist Monday who referred me to an oral surgeon who saw me Tuesday but couldn't do an extraction until the 11th
It popped out on its own Thurs
5 days of the worst toothache ever
Roughly $2000 18 years ago,$5000 now
I'm saving it for my estate Dental fun!
The thread is 1/2" long

For $2000 you’d think they’d spend 4 bucks on some locktite.

Lol .the X-rays were wild. The bone was completely gone all the way around it.I’m amazed I didn’t feel anything until Saturday. That took awhile to happen

Well, 18 years is a pretty good run, I s'pose... (Not being my implant, easy for me to say...)

Maybe put it on Craig's List?

Unfortunate circumstances have led me to perform my latest 2 extractions myself. I don't recommend it, if you can avoid it.

My wife and I also have a few implants. One of hers was loose so she had it checked. Luckily it only needed to be retorqued. I told her to ask the dentist what the correct foot pounds was so I could just fix it myself next time.

I feel for you, I'm getting my remaining top teeth pulled Monday and an upper denture.

Did the plastic drywall anchor come out too, or is it still in there?

Yeah. My son was born without an eye tooth. The implant cost nearly $5K a few years back. We were told it has an expected life of 20 years.

My wife recently had one done on a failed root canal from 20 years ago. Over $5K for that one. We have dental insurance, but its limit is $1750/year, so the majority was out of pocket. Surgeon did the post and a cadaver bone graft. Regular dentist attached the false tooth. So far I still have all my teeth although a couple are crowned after root canals.

Sorry to hear about the pain!

Torque values measured in newton centimeters.

I am 8 months into my #10 incisor implant. Fake tooth torque down triggered a series of minor sinus issues: vertigo, headache, fatigue and stigmatism. All symptoms have resolved themselves. This is a weird and more extreme surgical procedure than I expected. I might even do it again if necessary.

I rate the professionals I need:
#1) Dentist
#2) Veterinarian
#3) Car Mechanic
#4) EMTs
and so on......

I am thankful for every dentist that I have seen.
My mother grew up in a very rural area of Idaho and during that time the local dentist also sub'd as the Vet or maybe he was the Vet subbing as the Dentist. However, due to severe decay, she has most of her teeth removed by him when she was 13.
She made sure all of us kids went to the dentist but she preferred to sit in the car to wait, she could not/would not sit in the office.

I popped out a crown on Tuesday night. Just came right out when eating a bao bun. No pain, looked good, figured with my dental luck I'd be out a couple grand if I was lucky.

Nope, tooth good, crown good, just came off. Out the door for under $50. Sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield

My daughter was questioning whether to take her dentists advice and have an appliance made to prevent bruixism at night (grinding) All I could tell her was that I didn’t and in the last 30 yrs I’ve probably spent $30,000 on crowns, root canals, implants etc ….

Default Clear Choice......

In 2020, the day before election day, I had all my teeth removed, top & bottom at Clear Choice in Indy. I turned 61 a month later.
It was far from the most painful thing I ever endured.
I had spent thousands on teeth repair & crowns, dentures, etc. over the years prior. Clear Choice cost me $52k. It changed my life.

Now I can eat anything I want with zero issues and zero pain.
They should issue these when we pop out.

No, I am not seen on their TV ads.
I was deemed to have a face good for radio.

In the middle of having all that done for lower reconstruction. I did NOT need to see this .
But the odds are good if mine lasts at least 18 years it will outlive me, so . . .

Had all my wisdom teeth out long ago. Turned out that the upper left rear was causing lots of grief orally. Had it removed and decided that a implant was not necessary from the location. All mouth docs satisfied with it so far. Since losing it took care of all my mouth issues, I have no problem with that.

Thru out the years have lost a tooth now and then. Had a partial and much later had 6 teeth pulled at one time and an upper plate. Lasted another 10 years or so and had a partial bottom installed. Yes, It's a pain soaking them at night, etc. but still have 3 on the bottom but they are still with me after all this time, guess I'll keep them. Can chew a venison steak, ribs, apples, corn on the cab and smile a lot. Sure cheaper than implanys the dentist wanted to do so long ago.

Getting my first crown (maybe) in a week or so. I'm 72. Can't believe the prices for implants. I've decided I like soup. Soup is cheap. Blenders are cheap. Bourbon & Coke doesn't require teeth. Life will still be good.

Just tighten it until you feel the threads stripping off, then back it off a quarter turn.

I am in for around 13k for two implants and two crowns. At 86 I wondered about whether I should do it or not, but I still enjoy eating whatever I want so the money doesn't matter and alcohol will probably preserve me for another ten. No worries!

I have two implants, one from 2005, and the other from 2022. Both have held up well. They are just like real teeth, except they'll never decay. They were installed by two different dental teams, an oral surgeon to install the anchor hardware, and my regular dentist to create and attach the fake tooth. All four dentists were perfectionists, so the results were excellent. Interestingly, both oral surgeons had two doctorates. The first had received a PhD in biology before he decided to become a dentist, and the second was a graduate of a joint DDS-MD program and held both degrees.

In both cases, the oral surgeons took their time before installing the anchor screw. After removing the bad tooth, they waited a month or so to see if the bone had filled in the socket. In both cases, it hadn't, so they installed a graft bone ("bone in a bottle"). They waited another couple of months for the graft to take, then installed the anchor screw. Then they waited another couple of months for the bone to fully and firmly encase the screw, and then pronounced me ready for the fake tooth crown. At that point my regular dentist took over and installed the crown. So it was about a six-month process from beginning to end, but it was worth the wait. Because of my experience, I am extremely skeptical of the storefront dental practices that promise "same-day implants".

With the first implant, my dental insurance refused to pay, because they claimed implants were "experimental". That was a complete lie, the jerks just didn't want to pay. The second one was covered at 50% by insurance. The price was in the $5,000 to $6,000 range for each, with half off for me for the second one. Expensive for sure, but worth it to me. Bridges would have been cheaper, but with bridges, you have to wreck two good teeth to hold the fake one, and that was a non-starter for me.

Bottom line, I love my implants. They're just like real teeth, so much so I forget I have them. So get 'em if you need 'em!
