Default Vietnam death sentence in financial fraud case

Bernie Maddoff stole $65B from innocent trusting people. He went to federal prison and his wife still lives in a $4M home. This woman stole $12B from over 30k victims and gets the needle. I’m not sure how I feel about this. I personally know people affected by Maddoff’s ponzi scheme. I know what it’s like to have something you worked for stolen. My company figured out a way to screw me out of a large portion of my pension through bankruptcy. I’ve watched all the Maddoff documentaries and I’ve said out loud, “they should hang his arrogant ass”. In this case the really are. Part of me thinks a life of hard labor, busting rocks with a sledgehammer would be a better sentence. 16hrs a day. Everyday!!!!!

Things are different in some countries compared to soft on crime USA. Some years ago I read an article in Life magazine about businesses in China that scam the public. Death sentence. Pictures of the guilty loaded on what appeared to be livestock trucks, standing room only. They were taken to a rural location straight from the court after sentencing, forced to kneel down in rows and shot in the back by young soldiers with an AK.

As appealing as the death penalty may be to some, it is hard to fix the mistakes that people inevitably make. Evidently this is not a problem with Communist countries as they must not make mistakes or at least own up to them. I am not squeamish about executing the guilty, but too often it is not the guilty who are executed and we find out too late.

This lady's crime may amount to about 3% of the GDP of Vietnam. Small wonder the government there is PO'd.

Average monthly salary in Vietnam is $290/month. Comparatively, $12 billion in Vietnam Makes Bernie's 65 in the US chump change.

A crowd had gathered outside a home awaiting the arrest of a man accused of a widespread fraud. A news reporter circulated gathering details from individuals about their losses and opinions on the accused. He approached one man who stated he was not there to witness an arrest but to kill the fraudster. At that him and another drew katanas and went one thru a door and the other thru the window and when they emerged a few moments later it was obvious they had made coleslaw out of the guy.
They then sat on the curb to await the authorities.
I was 11 or 12 when I saw that story from Japan and it made an impression. As heinous as the act may have been the fact the two took full responsibility for their actions I found admirable.
I agree to the above sentiment that Madoff and those of his ilk should reside in the basement of a laundromat be filling potholes for $14.99 an hour.

China executed a man several years ago because they found out he used lead base paint on children's toys that were exported all over the world. I think these punishments are just window dressing to make some of these Communist countries look honest while their leaders are stealing billions from their citizens. Maybe I should be in the yacht business.
