It's those guns, I tells ya - Massacre in Sydney
a knife wielding attacker went on a rampage in Bondi, Australia and killed/injured several people. One of the injured was a 9 month old baby. Who stopped him? A policeman with a gun.

One of the newsies over there took the opportunity to promote their heavy-handed gun laws by saying "just think how bad it could have been if he had a GUN!"

I'm surprised that it even made news since it does not fit the agenda.

The image of a dying mother throwing her injured baby daughter into the arms of strangers and telling them to take care of her has gnawed heavily at me.
Greater love...

Back when David Dinkins was mayor of NYC a teen visitor from the Midwest was stabbed to death in front of his family in a street robbery. Mayor Dinkins used the crime politically by saying this was an example of why gun control was needed.
It’s a mental illness…this gun control mania…I tell ya! It’s totally divorced from reality.

Massacre in Sydney, Australia - 6 killed - "Active Stabber"
I'm not sure if this has already been talked about, or got an news coverage in other parts of the world. On 13 April 2024, a mentally ill man stabbed numerous people at "Westfields" Bondi, which resulted in 6 dead.
Australia, with some of the toughest gun laws in the world, has failed to protect its defenseless citizens. No Active Shooter......an Active Stabber who appeared to be targeting women shoppings.
A terrorist attack was everyone's first thoughts due to Bondi's large Jewish population.

And she's being fêted as "a hero". Not to detract from her prompt and decisive action, she was doing what she was trained to do in a desperate situation, using the appropriate tool for the job.
According to the BBC article, the Sydney police say he was specifically targeting women. The only man killed was a security guard - who was (of course) unarmed.
Now the mental health angle: "His father, Andrew Cauchi, told reporters his son had battled with mental illness and recently come off his medication. "To you he is a monster. To me, he was a very sick boy," he said, in a video posted by The Australian newspaper.
"He wanted a girlfriend and he's got no social skills and he was frustrated out of his brain," he added, when asked about why his son may have targeted women... And of course the obligatory months of talking heads and thousands of pages of reports which will culminate in "recommendations":
A special strike force has been created to investigate the incident, with New South Wales Police saying it could take months to present its findings.

The thing that strikes me , and angers me is all the “men” running away. Is Australia full of cowards????? The attacker appeared to be a scrawny uncoordinated guy. There were plastic/resin chairs around that could have easily been used to defend and disarm. I can’t believe middle aged healthy men would retreat while woman were being attacked.

Evidently there was just another attack of a cleric and others in a church in Australia.
It isn't a gun violence problem. It is a violence problem
Violent people will find a way to act out.
My fear is that deprived of guns some of them will start using explosives.
No, they are not that hard to get or manufacture. The formula for black powder has been known for over 1000 years and Nitroglycerine for 175 and the components of either are easy to come by. As Timothy McVeigh demonstrated ammonium nitrate and any fuel is also very explosive and easy to come by.
Gun control will not make the violence problem go away. It will make it worse.
Witness, prohibition and the "war on drugs"
The one thing I know from studying history is that government doesn't learn from history

As part of their gun control program, Australia needs to provide hookers for their overabundance of nerds and geeks!
Maybe call them "Dating Consultants" or "Violence Control Technicians"
I'll stop before I get another point!

Yes, because of the metric system. True, guns were missing, but proper use of a yardstick to ensure proper use of medication was also missing.

In the UK he could only be sued after he served his sentence for assault. I wish I was making it up.

Sounds like another Incel past breaking point. I don't get it. I've been through several periods in my life of not having female company, and at times it was an irritation, but no more. Never drove me to doing anything this vicious. Maybe I'm "toxically level-headed".

I should have also pointed out that, here in this state, New South Wales, we have pretty tight knife laws too. So again, the law doesn't stop these offenders.
And of course, the Politicians can't blame the public mental health services, so instead they are looking to overhaul the Security Guard sector.

"A policewoman, actually. Well done." Don't you mean a police person" )
The irony is that one of those killed was a store security guard, and here in Oz even those so employed are not allowed to carry pepper spray and/or a baton. Had he been properly equipped, both he and the perpetrator, who was severely suffering from a mental illness, would probably be alive today.

Clearly it is time to ban these high capacity assault knives...
Trying to teach fools logic is about impossible.
I feel sorry for the victims. Had they been armed, it may have been different.

Couple of French contractors went after him with some kind of plastic bollard or pole. He ran to where the policewoman was searching and she blew him away.

Once they leave the european continent, the French are not that bad when the pickle hits the fan. Its just irritating though.
IF that male security guard had been in America, and been employed by an armed security guard company, he would have ended the whole situation at that point.
Sadly nope, not in the land of Oz, where its ILLEGAL to have a gun collection and any ammunition that is of same caliber..

Unless something has drastically changed since I was on an Enfield forum with a bunch of Aussie's, it's not quite that simple. For a start, licensing varies depending on where you live. IIRC, Western Australia is the most picky place. At one time owning rifles in a current military caliber used to be a no-no, hence some of the weird wildcat rounds you can read about. As .303 is no longer a military issue caliber, owning Enfields in the original caliber is not the problem it used to be.
The UK is VERY twitchy about how many rifles you have in one caliber and how much ammo you have on hand. That started a long time ago when the establishment decided that what happened to "Cousin Nicky" at the hands of the mob was not going to be repeated in Britain.

Actually the French have a bad rap because of WWII leadership. Many of them have fought bravely. In fact lets not forget that without some brave Frenchmen our own country would probably not exist

Yup, that is the definition of a phobia - an irrational fear of something - it is a term to describe a form of mental illness or defect. In this case it is an irrational fear of guns - a.k.a. Hoplophobia.
Any more it has become common to mis-use the term phobia. Because re-defining the term phobia makes it possible to imply that anyone who opposes some of the left's pet causes has a mental illness or defect.

Visit the Ossuary at Verdun then we'll discuss the falings of the French. Then there's all those French soldiers of 1914 charging the Germans-wearing bright red pants. France was bled white in WWI, in the 1930s they had the "hollow years" when the birthrate dropped, when you're relying on 30-40 year olds to fill your front ranks....
Depending on the state, in the US of A people who defend others are denounced as "vigilantes". Though the word origin means someone who watches out for others.

I think gun control is driven less by phobia but more by scripted talking points. If the antis set enough sign posts they will eventually lead some lemmings to the cliff.
Their current self defense mantra is "plead for mercy and try not to bleed on your assailant".
