A life-long dream come true...
Even in my early childhood we never had a toaster that was any good. Now, before you shake your head and cluck your tongue stop and think about over 7 decades of burnt toast, un-toasted toast, Bread toasted more on one side than the other, and toasters that would not pop-up. Not 1, not ever, from the first use to the last. All had at least one of the above quirks. You could set the darkness control but you never new how it would come out. I tried all brands, even the expensive ones. All to no avail. My determination, persistence and patience, have finally paid off.The toaster curse is broken. The heel of the boot of oppression is lifted from the back of my neck. I ordered one on line. It is a Gevi digital toaster. No knobs, all electronic. Many new features and control options. It was a one hundred dollar toaster on sale for about sixty bucks. Had it a few days now and so far, so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

A miracle! I get what you’re describing. Thanks for sharing a meaningful story. The one we have pops up at random. It’s hard to scramble the eggs while watching the toast full time.

Sometimes it really is the little things, Jack. Glad to hear your new bread browner is working for ya! Although I do remember fondly, probably due to the passage of time, toasting english muffin halves with a forked stick over the fire. They were always either on fire or barely crunchy, never right, but they still hold a place in my memories.

Simple needs Well yeah, mostly. And there will always be something. Whats next you ask. Well, I guess I am good for now. What ever does come next, I hope it isn't serious and doesn't take so long to sort out.

Toasters are tricky - most of the cycle is drying the moisture out of the bread, and the actual turning-it-brown part happens right at the end.
I don’t toast stuff much, since my bride hates things on the counters and hides the toaster and can opener in the hellish area where things like the cheese grater and garlic press live.
This Gevi looks pretty cool, though. I may give it a try.

I hear ya! The handles on my $60.00 toaster have fallen off, and it never did a good job. I'm so glad. Good excuse to act on your review. I'll have it in a couple days.

Now all you need is to find the butter and jam at the same time.
My wife likes her toast the color of mahogany. I like mine somewhat (a lot) lighter. You'd think I'd remember to dial it back but you'd be wrong.

The toaster we had in my house purchased in the ‘50’s finally burned out a couple years ago.
I found an identical replacement toaster for $3 at an estate sale.
The replacement is probably good for another 50+ years.
Toasts pretty well too.

In fishing camp in Quebec we had a stovetop toaster. It was a round metal plate with wire loops on top that leaned toward the center of the metal plate. The toaster was placed on a burner of the stove and when it got heated up, the sliced bread was put on the wire loops that were heated up and would toast the bread.

Great timing!
Needed a new toaster.
walkin jack’s review provided invaluable insight. So I just bought a Gevi via Amazon…$53.99, American! Deal!
Thank you, walkin jack.
Be safe!

Yinz remember the toasters that said "single slice here", right? Maybe 20 years ago I was working with droopy and he was bitching about the toaster in our office wouldn't toast right all the time. Just one slice. This room temperature IQ idiot had a family, was in the Guard, had a good job, and he never knew that the top said "single slice here." I even showed him that bent wire in the one side that knows there's a slice of bread that needs a toastin'. I still don't think he knows that. New ones probably don't have that stupid feature. I just use a trigger ignition MAPP gas torch.

But is it on the approved appliance roster for California?
What is the carbon footprint?
Can I get a solar powered version?
How about a Rainbow Flag model?

Long ago when I lived in Detroit and still read the newspapers, one of them had an article where they invited readers to write in with a list of products they had purchased over their lifetimes that they were very happy with.
Far and away the most common item listed was the Sunbeam Toaster. Some comments were along the lines
"We got a Sunbeam Toaster as a wedding present in 193x. We've used it every day for 50 years and it still works perfectly!"
So look for one at a yard sale.

I doubt they would allow it in California. I believe they have it listed as an ASSAULT TOASTER.

You might be the most successful man in the world....
... but if you ain't got decent toast, you might as well not have anything.
PS It took 40 years for me to convince a certain someone that warm bread is NOT 'toast'.

Growing up as a wee lad in a world of inconsistent, cheap toasters I fondly remember the sound of mom scraping toast to herald breakfast time.

Had a Black and Decker toaster which did a good job with toast. Only problem was that it took very long time. I could drop the toast, then fry my eggs over hard, brown my sausage and hash browns and still have to wait for the toast to pop up. I bought a new toaster which is much faster. I will keep the old one for backup. Only paid $17 for the new one so hard to say how long it will last.

walkin jack, I can appreciate that review. I had a 20 year old Toastmaster that finally gave up - pushed down the lever and it died in a shower of sparks. Bought another Toastmaster (at WalMart) to replace it, and it was ok. At the time I was only toasting muffins - toast on one side setting. I retired last year and am buying bread mostly, not muffins. (Crunchy peanut butter on warm toast is a great snack!) The toaster was stuck on muffin setting, one side only. Ditched it. Bought a Black and Decker (!!! I have a drill and saw with their brand!!!) and it's been ok, so far.
