Netflix mini series
Ripley
I recommend. 8 part series in black and white that is filmed in the film noir /Alfred Hitchcock style which is captivating. Watch the first two episodes and you will be hooked. I thought this was very well done and pretty much kept me in suspense until the end.

Some of the best photography and acting in years. Just fantastic. Creepy sometimes, too.

I discovered it a few nights back while skimming for something to watch and decided, what the heck. I’m glad I did. As you say , the first two episodes got me hooked ! It’s very well done and I look forward to viewing the rest this weekend.

Thank you for the recommendation. Excellent, intelligent, artistic, without being pretentious if you know what I mean. You are correct in describing it as Hitchcockion (if that is a word ). Three episodes in and I am hooked. A couple of non spoiler comments. First and second episodes and the stairs. I would be in the best shape ever or dead . Episodes three, the boat episode is epic.

Five minutes in I had come to dislike RIPLEY (Tom) ... great story told in the best tradition of Alfred Hitchcock.

I watched it all after seeing the recommendation. Very good, kind of creepy and disturbing, wonder if there will be a season 2?

Just started. Really like it. Thanks for the suggestion!
The B&W cinematography is exquisite.
If you haven't seen the original movie with Alain Delon, 1960, Purple Noon, check it out: Purple Noon - Wikipedia
Available to download for $4 from Amazon.

My wife and I watched based on OP recommendation. Told my wife the guy suggesting it was a high polluting elitist litigator and the plot would probably be over our heads and hard to follow.

There have been a number of remakes based on Patricia Highsmith痴 1955 novel. I have not seen any of them, but my book club read the book a couple of years ago.
As with all movies based on books, it is a good idea to read the book sooner or later. If you read the book first, of course it will be full of spoilers, but since the book always predates the movie, (after-the-fact novelizations don稚 count) odds are you will have read it already. Usually, but not always, the book will be better.

I tried to watch it but couldn't get past the arch/stilted dialog or style of speaking. It seemed as though the director told everyone to use their "movie" voices. I quit after the second episode.

I could not get into Ripley. The stairs were trying my ever so short patience. Quit after I think less than 2 episodes.
Baby reindeer tho. Crazy!! Definite train wreck. The whole way. That one I did finish.

Almost hate to admit it, but I was a fan of Shameless. Always felt like I needed a shower after watching an episode.

I was not able to get st the 1st episode. all those stairs and the dialog And Ripley seemed like a mildly retarded con artist. Not even close to being interesting....to me that is.
