Stairway to Heaven to be dismantled
Oahu’s famed Stairway to Heaven will soon be no more. It’s officially been closed since the late 80’s, but with “social media influencers” continuing to flaunt the trespassing laws and damaging the fragile ecosystem just to get selfies, the government has decided to completely dismantle it. I’m just glad I got to hike it legally back in ‘82 when I was stationed at Pearl. The view was spectacular and well worth the several month wait after getting signed up.
Did anyone else here have the chance to climb it?

I was hoping to make it to Heaven, but it looks like I outlived the passageway. The Other One is probably still open for business, though...

The Other One has a bank of express elevators.

Apparently there is a Highway to Hell
It goes to Madeira Beach near St.Pete.

Stupid humans cannot be trusted. Great chunks of the desert in southern Nevada are now "no-shoot" and "no-travel" zones due to the public's stupidity and the increasing population. Iron Maiden are correct, we are filthy animals.

I never understood the problem. If there's no "stairway," there's no problem.

There are steps and they are golden.
Our English teacher used "Fool on a Hill" to discuss. She told us it was about God, explaining her views why to the class. God is no fool.
Poetry and songwriting, it is. Ambiguity used as a tool to make us wonder.

I didn't know there were really "stairs to heaven" some where, so why not Hawaii? As for the song, they have better.

As the story goes, "If there is a stairway to heaven and a highway to hades, that lets you know how many are headed each way".

When I was spending a lot of time on Oahu, roughly summers from 2000 to 2016, the Stairway to Heaven was a thing. It was illegal to access it, but many did anyway. I never tried to primarily because I did not think myself physically fit enough to challenge it. (Make that do not. While I think I am in better physical shape now than 10 or 15 years ago, I still would not attempt it.)
Per the articles I read, hikers would get stranded on it necessitating expensive rescues. It was dangerous, too. What was once kind of available to only those in the know, with the local knowledge, blew up on social media so everybody knew.
I think it is a good thing that it is being dismantled. Still a lovely view from the top of the Pali lookout, the ancient half crater ring that forms the spectacular, high and beautiful, cliffs on the windward side of Oahu, accessible by car.

It looks amazing. Wish I had a chance to climb it when I was much younger! Yes, people can ruin anything

IIRC, I-40 from Little Rock to Texarcana was voted the worst highway in the country to over 10 years running. Having driven it, I agree.

I have driven that one many times myself. Constantly under construction. Sometimes I would just do US-70 through all the little towns.
As for a Stairway to Heaven, it's not for sale.
