CLUB AWARDS BANQUET
I belong to a pistol club in Maryland and tonight we had our annual awards banquet. The club sponsors numerous handgun events and recognizes the accomplishments in each event. Each event is scored for the year according to the Lewis system, which divides the participants into classes and gives awards for each class in the event.
Over the last couple years I have related how I suffered a retinal hemorrhage in my right eye, which made it impossible to sight a handgun with my right eye. Faced with the prospect of being out of the handgun shooting game forever, I threw a lot of lead downrange working to shoot righthanded while sighting with my left eye.
In the .22 bullseye event, the club had three classes of participants, Class A, Class B and Class C. The very last award for the event was Class C, 2nd place, and it was given to me! My recently deceased uncle always encouraged me through everything I went through saying, "Let's see some awards this year." Never give up.

Congratulations sir! Your courage and persistence are an inspiration to those of us who are facing the inevitable ravages of aging, yet desire to keep competing. It was well earned.

Giving out awards gives incentive for all of us to try our best, and that improves the overall competition within the club. I know, it kept me going for nearly 50 years. In Bullseye, PPC, High Power, small bore, Metallic Silhouette, (I tried most of the games).

Congratulations!
I know too many older friends who give up competing when their abilities start to diminish. I try to enjoy the game and not worry about the award. It is nice winning though!

I relate to that. In the past few years my abilities have diminished a whole lot. I finally gave up on bullseye, my shaking was too distracting, I still shoot trap league, and skeet for fun.
