Long-lost model of 'Star Trek' Enterprise found
Article here.
The original model of the starship Enterprise has returned to the family of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.Heritage Auctions last week returned the long-lost model, featured in the original Star Trek series' opening credits, to Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry Jr., CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment and son of the late Gene Roddenberry, the company announced on Thursday.
The three-foot-long USS Enterprise was believed to have disappeared in the 1970s when Gene Roddenberry loaned it to the makers of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. ...

This is also from the article:
Quote:
It resurfaced last fall when an unnamed person discovered it and brought it to Heritage for authentication. The auction house then contacted Rod Roddenberry to coordinate its return.
|
I wonder if the "unnamed person" who took it to the auction house was compensated. Gene Sr. has been dead for over 30 and there's no proof it was stolen. The original series wasn't that successful and only lasted 3 seasons.
I've got Scottys putter and there's no way I'm showing it to Heritage. I bought it fair and square at a garage sale. I'd be afraid they would take my putter and I'd be left with the shaft!

It looks like the warp drives on the original are sagging a bit. Maybe they warped through time?

From the article in the NYT:
The [eBay] seller of the model was bombarded with inquiries and quickly took the listing down... [and] contacted Heritage Auctions to authenticate it...
...Mr. Roddenberry... said he gave the seller a “reward” for its recovery but did not disclose the terms...

I was at the US Air and Space museum in DC 35 years ago and supposedly they had "THE" model used in the series hanging from the rafters next to the Spirit of St. Louis...I have a pic of it somewhere.

For travelers interested in StarTrek!
In the beautiful Adirondack mountains of Northern NY in Ticonderoga, New York they have a exhibit/ Star Trek Tour at 112 Montcalm Street .
If you go to Lake George/Lake Champlain area check it out.
Note I have never went, not realy that interested, but I hear its quite nice!

Star Trek is my all time favorite show. I like all of them very much except Discovery which is woke ****.
Marta from "Whom Gods Destroy" was and is hot. TOS had a lot of great guest actresses that were very easy on the eyes. But Dr. Beverly Crusher and Lt. Tasha Yar of TNG were the women of my dreams in my youth.

Not a huge Trekkie, but as a kid I built models, mostly airplanes and later Armored vehicles. I do remember probably in the late 70s building the old AMT Models kit of the Enterprise.

Been watching this thread for a while, resisting the temptation to tell a really bad joke...can't resist any more.
What does toilet paper and the Starship Enterprise have in common?
They both circle Uranus and wipe out the Klingons.

<< GROAN >> Well I'm glad you finally got it out of your system, so to speak.
That joke must be about as old as the show. I remember my boss in the Hardware Dept. of the department store I worked in almost 50 years ago telling it!
Thought: This thread might be circling the drain

Ah yes, remember the episode where she learned some new conjugations on Risa?
At the appropriate time during that episode my wife exclaimed, "Hoshi!!", then said, "I suppose she's your new sci-fi girl." For once, I kept my mouth shut.
