Things were so simple
In the 60's & 70's my mother would buy an undiluted bottle of Hawaiian Punch base and we would mix it. We found it to be an amazing ice cream topping when used straight and referred to it as "battery acid" as it was both sweet and tart. Good memories.

Ive used that method on a pickup tailgate, a buddy had a mid fifties Chevy that had a perfect opener on the door latch mounted on the post, it was faultless once you had the right angle.

Dad did that once on mom's new kitchen table.

Notice I said "once".

So the one on the right I have had for over 50 years. Got it at a small trade show when I was a very young apprentice. The mod (bend) came when young wifey left it a little close to the stove one day.

My son and nephew always argue about who should inherit this fine antique. I couldn't have them fighting over it, so one day in dad's garage, I saw the one on the left. Dad can't drink beer where he is now, died in 1990, so I took it.

I may have it modified to match the other. Do you think that will affect the value for future generations?

IM56: The right end of it does paint cans (properly) while the left end (loop) does long neck bottles (shortnecks, too).

Talking about improvised openers reminded me of something....... In one of his articles Skeeter Skelton told about an old fellow he knew who showed him you could pop the cap off a beer bottle with the hammer of a Colt Bisley model revolver. Always meant to try that if I ever get an original Bisley...............

Can opener or bottle opener is all I ever heard them called. I'll be 62 next month and grew up around lots of old folks. Dad was 40 when I was born.
