His contributions to rock music were many, and hopefully on Tuesday afternoon, he had the presence of mind to contemplate those great days of future passed, and on the threshold of a dream, made one step into the light, surrounded by his children's children's children, who were watching and waiting.

That musical line up in the Cosmos is growing much too fast as of late.

The music of 'The Moody Blues' affected me profoundly. Especially 'A Question of Balance' and 'Every Good Boy Deserves Favour'. And Mike Pinder was a wizard with the sound he got from the Mellotron, a notoriously cranky instrument that he also had the mechanical skills to keep working even during serious failures in live concerts. AND he inspired John Lennon to use the Mellotron in his 'Strawberry Fields Forever'. Lennon's riff was extremely simple, but it's a landmark in song openings that people know instantly.

But back to Mike Pinder. He achieved a sound that seemed born out of and for the cosmos. He was instrumental to the Moody's success in performing and in songwriting.

Fun instrument to play.
We had one in the Brooklyn Sam Ash back around '70.
At about 8:45 PM, before closing, we'd light it up, along with other instruments, and the Brooklyn Bridge would Rock.
Met them backstage at Carnegie, and then had second box,
stage right seats.
We've come a long way to making one musician sound like an orchestra.

In the early 80's I went to Sam Ash and Manny's on West 48th Street's Music Row, just to say I did.

It was like walking on hallowed ground.

They played at the Amphitheater...outside stage. It was pretty cold that night. They were all wearing jackets. Graeme Edge their drummer had a heater set up behind his kit.
