Things that keep me up at night...
I admit it. My mind wanders a lot. Fortunately there's plenty of property for it to wander on.
Don't know the answer or why I care but I can't get it out of my head.
Is a hotdog on a bun considered a sandwich or something else?

Since hotdog is a verb, I don't believe it's a sandwich.
Now, hot dog, a Frankfurter, might be, depending upon which dictionary you choose.

You really want to keep yourself up at night, just ask yourself this question in a dark room: I wonder how many spiders are in here?

I wouldn't cut in half so I'd say no.
But.................... would it qualify to be called a taco?

What keeps me up at night is the 2nd hand kidney of a 66 year old woman and the bladder of a 3 year old.
But, on your topic, I wouldn't consider a hotdog anymore of a sandwich than I would a hamburger.
Now you got me wondering if the hamburger is a sandwich???
Well at least I have something to think about on my way to the bathroom.

A sandwich is a food - often meat, but not always - held between two pieces of bread for the purpose of eating it without getting your hands dirty.
A hamburger is certainly a sandwich. The only reason I can see why one would not consider a hot dog a sandwich is because it is not two separate pieces of bread. It is a split bun. Obviously these people have never eaten cheap store brand hot dog buns, because they invariably come apart at the hinge and then you have two pieces of bread.
So yes, a hot dog is a sandwich.

The things that keep me up at night cannot be discussed here . . .
but I'm working on that. After this many years and being closer to the end than the beginning of my time on earth I'm striving to keep things in proper perspective.
Sorry to depart from the sandwich theme, but your title lead me in other directions.
But no, I do not consider a hot dog to be a sandwich; it being a technical offshoot of the concept like a ham biscuit (as opposed to a "ham sandwich" or other specialty 'delicacies' )

Yes, hotdogs and hamburgers are sandwiches. Tacos are not. A sandwich is pretty much anything between two pieces of bread. Tortillas are not bread. Three pieces of bread is a bread sandwich.
Don't get me started on "unleavened bread". That's an oxymoron. Bread, by definition, is leavened. "Unleavened bread" is nothing more than a cracker.

Where one comes down on this point has serious implications for where a pita or gyro goes on the Venn diagram.

Not a sandwich ... when you ask for a "hotdog" you know what you're going to get. When you ask for a "sandwich" you have to specify.

I had one crawl nearby at my Uncles house in Sarasota many years ago. I jumped into bed and arranged the sheets like a cocoon and left the next day.

The Hawaiian Islands were initially known, to westerners, as the Sandwich Islands.
Not the Hot Dog Islands.

A few years ago, as I was just falling asleep after a long day, I felt something on my chest . Absently I swiped at it and felt something roll under my fingers , then fell asleep.
In the morning when I got up I found the remains of a large black widow dismembered on my sheets .
I thought to myself ,“ that was close!. Guess I needed the sleep “
Now a days , I can’t sleep more than a couple hours without having to visit the bathroom
Often I can remember being vaguely aware of my surroundings while I’m “asleep”
Chronically fatigued these days .
Getting old ain’t fun

Because, even in The Land of Eccentrics (ie England), there wasn't an Earl of Hot Dog.

"Coulrophobia" = fear of clowns (from Greek, coulros, "stilt walker")

I cannot help you with the giraffe.
But it is explained in the first book, that when Tarzan went through puberty and started growing hair on his face, he was afraid that he was turning into an ape. And by then he had already decided from reading the books in the cabin down by the harbor that he was a man. So he shaves, using his hunting knife. That's also why he doesn't have hair down to his ankles. He cuts his hair with his knife.
And before you ask where you got the knife, he found it in the cabin.

I just had a thought. Anyone that seen a Tarzan movie knows that Tarzan does not have a hairy chest.
I wonder if John Clayton is genetically disposed to not having chest hair. Or if Tarzan also shaved his chest. Mr Burroughs never mentioned that bit of manscaping.

I believe it is to force you to either buy more hotdogs than you want, or more buns than you want.
Very clever marketing, I must say.
PS : My brain is too tired to noodle this out, but is there a magic combination of packages of buns and packages of hotdogs to where it works out even?
That should give you food for thought (!) when you are having trouble sleeping.

For my third mistake of the day I read all of the posts... Now I won't even get my customary 2 hours of sleep.
FYI, if you have a Lewis bakery in your area they make a 4 pack of decent hot dog rolls. Problem solved.

What did the Zen Buddhist say to the hot dog vendor?
"Make me one with everything."
He paid with a ten, then asked for change.
The hot dog vendor said, "Change must come from within."

Hotdog is really a word. I hear it was the first word I ever spoke.
Macaroni, cheese, and sliced hot dogs are not sandwiches.
Hotdogs cooked on clothes hangers over an open fire while camping are sandwiches?
Just a hotdog is a piece of some form of meat. The other, I call a hotdog on a bun(or bread).

There are times in many lives when professional help is called for. May I suggest Nathan's Famous or Vienna Beef as potential sources for good practical advice?
Generally speaking, anything of animal origin wrapped in bread that can be easily consumed with one hand, allowing the other hand to hold your beer, can be described as a sandwich.

Oh, I guess I'm going to hell. I sin and cut my hot dog bun hinges as I like a bread bun on top and one on the bottom; parallel. As long as I'm confessing my sins, I put Ketchup and Mustard on my dog. Will I be forgiven?

If there's leftover from the grill a day or two later I'll lay a dog on a piece of Wonder Bread, smear a little catsup and plop a slice of Kraft American on top then nuke. If I'm going to degrade myself I'll go all out.
