I noticed some of you guys mentioned okra. Try this: chop it up into about half inch chunks. Roll it around real good in your favorite fish fry batter. Lightly coat a skillet or wok with olive oil. Saute until it is very crispy, almost burned. Salt to your satisfaction and enjoy. My grand daughter and I did this not long ago and she was eating it faster than I could cook it. It's a great side for almost anything. I use okra in soups and gumbo, the only way I use it boiled.

Don't forget smothered okra and tomato with ham chunks, pickled okra, deep fried okra. It freezes well. Get a ****-load when it is harvested, cut it up and freeze for later cooking.

My sister is a vegan. At least I guess she is. She hardly ate meat when she was teaching in the one room schools in Montana. Many years ago. She still cooks meat for her husband or he also cooks on the grill...and yep she's past 70 and physically fine. Her husband is 5 ears younger and is in constant AFIB.

One thing to keep in mind is that as long as our ancestors stayed in trees eating leaves and such not much happened as far as technology goes. The day they left the trees and cautiously approached some meat that left burning after a fire, thats the day the old light bulb went on. Hey! We are going to need to defend ourselves from the predators that want to eat us with some kind of weapon and how do you make a taco....

I know a guy that I had always assumed was in his mid 60's and who is a vegan . I was quite surprised when he told me he was 80 years old.
He's quite healthy and pretty active .

OT to the original Q (my answer to which is "Yes, but it is not something I discuss with them"), but my niece in optometry school is a vegan and completely defies the preachy, militant stereotype. I asked her about it (she won't mention it unless asked) and she says she just tries not to hurt animals, but she understands others have different takes on things.

Anyhow ...

African elephants are known to live
70 years, so no a vegan diet isn't
healthy. It makes you fat.

I'm like what Joe Picket informed a Vegan what a Wyoming Vegan was. Only eats meat once a day. Same here in Western South Dakota. Plus Venison, Elk, Antelope, Fish, and Pheasant.

If God didn't want us eating animals, why did he make them out of meat?
