This. The Chinese don't think in terms of one or two election cycles (easy for them ). They work in decades or even centuries.

The Chinese have been in an economic war with us for 20 years, our admirations seem to like the cheap labor and profits though.
One of Trumps advisors, Peter Navarro, has been saying this for at least that long.

All comes under the concept and practice of
a global economy. The U.S. gets cheaper goods
not only from China but numerous other Asian
nations as well as Latin American countries.

Meanwhile Uncle Sam's Navy is having a hard time with recruiting and retention and loses a multi-billion dollar ship in port because, among other reasons "maintenance records were falsified."

Fewer and fewer young people see the
military as a career or even something
for a few years of service to the country.
Also note the reports of obesity among
young people. They CAN'T be in the
military.
So U.S. readiness suffers a little more
each year.

I know we can’t afford it nor would it be acceptable with many sectors of our society, but reinstating the draft would go a long way in addressing many of our current national challenges………..

Simple comment. Years ago “ wise businessmen” in the Us figured china labor was so cheap they took OUR technology to china, trained them how to make products at a large fraction of what US production cost. Now china has the technology and a slave lobor work force. Even with the costs in shipping the products my boat thousands of miles US business men are making a literal killing. China has many, many years before their whole population is living decently. I knew a machine tool tech from a US vertical lathe company that had been to china several times. Told me that walking out of every city in china he had worked there was a “ line” where the “ normal house and paved streets stopped. Said miles and miles of huts, open sewers, chicken, pigs ECT running loose. Naked children and older chineese looked Exactly like one saw in books 100s of years ago. China has not fought a “ real war”. They and Vietnam went at it few years after we left. They will have a very rude awaking in a modern war. As in Korea, their advantage is millions of “ cannon fodder”.

The Navy is doing the best they can with what they have, but we have retired ships without replacing them, over-extended the deployment times without performing needed maintenance, allowed ship building to fall behind on the delivery of our most reliable DDG destroyers and over worked the sailors on elongated tours of duty. This has resulted in a high suicide rate among the junior enlisted and has caused the Officer Corps to re-evaluate their career options. All this said, the Chinese Navy is still not equal to ours.

In a real shooting war...not that the ChiCom navy couldn't do some real damage...but they don't have much institutional experience at high intensity naval conflict...we have over a hundred years of experience even with some noted shortcomings as noted.
Should it come to it...the ChiCom Navy will have a very exciting but short life. The downside is that due to that it could go nuclear before the ChiComs would admit defeat.

I served in the Draft Army 1967-1971, though I was an RA-enlisted at 17. The Draft ensured that the Army's ranks were filled with quality enlisted men who were too often BETTER than their superiors. As the Russians say, "A fish starts rotting from its head." Plus we rely too much on technology, not enough on training, unit pride, morale, esprit.
In WWI the Royal Navy fought the brand new German Navy, and as David Beatty said after Jutland "There's something wrong with our bloody ships today. And with out bloody system !"

It's my understanding that the CCP has yet to float a nuclear ship. Seems they's be spending a lot of time refueling.

If those in charge have the courage to employ them aggressively, all three of our attack sub classes can put a stop to anything the Chinese navy might try. They are silent and deadly. Heck, our missile boats are probably much better as anti-ship subs than their attack subs. We have around 50 attack boats. A dozen or so on patrol around Taiwan could take care of any invasion or blockade fleet they could deploy.

The US military is not meeting recruitment goals. Many soldiers/ airmen and sailors were discharged over the vax. The Navy continues to shrink the number of ships. The defense budget is not keeping up with inflation, ie, a cut. We have sent much of our ammo to Ukraine. Not a good plan.

Many of our subs are not operational, needing various repairs.

Not long ago there was a waiting list for the Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard. You could join Marines but probably would not get the job you wanted. Same for Army………..it’s no mystery why we’re where we are at. And if you pay for everyone’s college the GI Bill is no longer an incentive.

They learned everything they know from us. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Meanwhile, we politicize our military - it is amazing what the Taliban achieved with a marked lack of diversity.

The Chinese are great planners. The have a 5th column of troops already in the USA. The 10s of thousands of military age men who have crossed the open southern border. Also, why are they allowed to buy large parcels of land near some of our most important military bases here? Their cyber war tech. is also very concerning.

A high school buddy went into the USAF after graduating...this was during the Vietnam War.
He enlisted for a six-year active duty hitch. He actually intended to be a lifer as he loved the service so much. He spent a year in Southeast Asia...Thailand I believe. He also served in Saudi Arabia when the bases used in Desert Storm were being built.
About four years into his six I saw him and he couldn't wait to get out. He said when the USAF was operating on a war footing things got done and quickly. He said they worked hard on-duty and played hard off-duty.
After the Vietnam War was over and the service went to a peacetime footing everything got so "chick___t" he couldn't stand it and wanted to leave when his enlistment was up.
It looks like when our services should be operating on war footing considering events around the world the powers that be are operating to politically correct and woke "leadership" and are suffering for it.
