I was living with my grandmother in Maryland in the early '70s. She wanted me to go to U of MD and stay close to home. This was the era when students there would protest, block US 1 and demand that ROTC be thrown off of campus. Of course, classes were constantly being cancelled. I wanted no part of that mess.
Off I went to Sweet Home Alabama, where my granddaddy had grown up. Earned a scholarship in the Navy/Marine Corps ROTC at Auburn and was on my way to a Regular commission in the Corps and a 20-30 year career.

Health issues that developed kept me from getting that butter bar and my career plans changed from wearing the Eagle, Globe and Anchor to wearing a badge and toting a sidearm.
These protestors need to go live in some of the Muslim countries I worked in as a police advisor. They would run home to Mummy and Daddy so quick it would make your head spin!
