I Got Paid Today For Doing Something Fun
I drive for the local GMC dealer and they sent me to Northern Indiana today to drive back a used Corvette. I hadn't driven one for years but I had a great 11 hours today and they are going to pay me for it. I would pay them, but don't tell them.

I got paid to hunt elk and mule deer for 9 years. Of course, I was a guide on a private ranch, but it was still hunting. Some of the best years of my life.

I believe it was a 16. It had less than 20,000 miles on it. I had almost forgotten what it was like to have that much power. I had a friend who had a twin turbo, V-12 AMG Mercedes and it was a treat to drive.

At one time, part of my job responsibility was distributing new company cars to company locations over about half the country. I had a "crew" of older retired men with a lot of time on their hands. They were given a little pay based on mileage, all expenses, and a plane ticket back to DFW. They all loved doing that job just to get out of the house and have some adventure. The old cars were sometimes driven back, but mainly just sold on the local used car market.
I have a friend whose son has a full-time job delivering new Kenworth tractors all over the country and Canada from the Kenworth assembly plant in Chillicothe, Ohio. He describes his life as being one long paid vacation. He is single, one of those guys who could never hold onto a job very long until he got the job with Kenworth. He has been driving for them for probably the last 15 years.

For 20 years, I had a "crew" of retirees who drove cars and trucks all over the county for me. Sometimes they drove cars back and sometimes they flew. i sent 1 guy to Spokane or someplace in the Northwest in a 100" stretch limo. We were in the limo leasing business for a time until we discovered those people tend not to pay their bills. The limo had a small gas tank and my guy had to stop a lot. People would ask who he was driving for and he would pick some celebrity out of the air. He would tell them the person in the back was sleeping and didn't want to be disturbed. The citizens would say "Pleas tell him (or her) I said hello".
We leased vehicles to people from other countries that Cat brought into the country. We delivered those and picked them up all over. We had to find one in the Atlanta airport parking lot once and that was a treat. I actually got the gentleman on the phone while he was in the airport in NYC waiting to fly home. He remembered the parking garage and my guy found the car. Otherwise, we would still be looking for it.
I planned to do it after I retired, but they put my boss in charge of the program. After he left the company, I did some driving, but they closed the division 2 years after I left. All of my guys are gone now, except for 1 or 2. I went to the funerals of the others.
I enjoy staying close to the car business and use the money for ammo, components, and an occasional new piece of hardware. I am happy with 2 or 3 days a week, it just depends on the business.

I loved my career. I had the best boss ever.
One of the perks of being self employed.

I retired in 89 got a job driving all over the country and retired from that job too. Now I get paid to sit back and watch hummingbirds drink nectar. Ooh and I've made more money in retirement than I made while on active duty. Life is good.

If you are retired and available, go to various dealers around where you live and tell them you would like to drive for them.
