It's an ill wind that blows no good
Certainly true in Lincoln NB
Building destroyed in seconds by tornado
Dashcam video shows the moment a powerful tornado destroyed a building in Lincoln, Nebraska during a deadly outbreak of severe storms.

if i recall the strongest here was an EF 1. Still pretty destructive.
I've seen several and been through one, all down south and in the midwest. Scary stuff.

I'd love to know if the Toyota Avalon dead in front of the camera escaped with intact windows, shielded by the SUV on one side and the pickup on the other.

If the dashcam clock was correct, it happened about 3pm on a Friday. They say it was an EF 3. According to news reports, there were 70 people in the building and only 3 were injured. Amazing!
'It was crazy': Tornado slams building near Lincoln, injuring three
We've stopped over in Lincoln several times after hunting in Wyoming. It's not the safest town, but they're right off of I-80 and have some cheap motels and decent restaurants.

Aerial photos before and after tornadoes show how much was destroyed
Several before/after pics, where you can slide the "divider" aross the pic. Elkhorn looks like it's been carpet bombed.
"...More than 20 tornadoes ripped across Oklahoma and the surrounding region Saturday into Sunday, including at least two EF3 tornadoes, one of which leveled the downtown of Sulphur late in the evening hours. An EF4 hit Marietta, Oklahoma. .."
Sulphur is toast:

This is what’s left of a log barn ,built in 1850’s.
Destroyed last month in minutes by a tornado.
Father in law was almost 92 years old he would
not go out and look at the damage. He had other
Health problems but this hurt him deeply.
He passed about two weeks later.
Please turn picture over.

Takes men months to build it. Took Mother Nature about 20 seconds to destroy it.

The destructive power of nature is only exceeded by the healing nature of man towards others. Faith will aid these folks in their recovery.

Yeah, but then again they are thousands of times bigger and often spawn hundreds of tornados themselves. But at least you have lots of warning. For what that's worth.

My gf just reminded me of a twister that struck Iowa City when she was doing her post-doc there in 2005 (?) and hunkering down in the underground parking garage of her apartment. Fortunately (relatively speaking) it hit the other side of the river and not where she was. She went out the next day and took some pics. Not pretty.
@LVSteve: She was wondering the same thing about the Toyota.

I hid in my basement bathroom while the tornadoes, yes plural, danced across Nebraska and Iowa that night, my better half was trapped at work until it was over... it wasn't fun.. but we came through it with only some branches to pick up.. but the devastation was biblical in scale... some friends had the total destruction only feet from their homes.. the fact no one died still mystifies me..

Interesting that although some windows went the majority of the cans just sir there. Maybe high wind area buildings should have profiles modified to allow the wind to pass better

Good luck making that work with the way most jurisdictions calculate property taxes.

It was the one this past month...
nerve wracking being separated from my better half while the sirens blared. I had many friends that were just too close for comfort. The clean up effort continues. Too many families have nothing much but memories left... One house hit was a local High School alumni coordinator's.. they are looking to replace yearbooks and photos

The sirens have been wailing here for 10 minutes now. The weather is seriously ugly outside.
We are hunkering.

There was a lot of whining here in Vegas this weekend because high winds caused a couple of outside events to be cancelled. They have no clue what it is to live in places with properly serious weather.

That YT vid is pretty scary. The wind is one thing, but being stuck in the car with all that debris flying around would be seriously nerve-wracking
When Mother Nature gets her dander up, there isn't really anything you can do.

In 1974 I saw where a tornado pulled the black top off the road. Not much will stop a mean one.
