Yesterday as normal was at the local diner with the rest of the "old farts" We were on our way out and this man approached us and asked a question. Got to admit he was very hard to understand so he had to repeat a couple times. (I think he might have been Scottish.)

I figure out he was asking "Does this eatery do take always.''

I said we call it take outs, go in to the end of the counter call it take out and they will take care of you.

Our local "old farts" table has between 12 and 16 people every morning. Filled with contractors, a school principal, a school counselor, an airplane mechanic, a well-respected rancher, the president of the school board and a few others. Like always we discuss everything from recipes to world politics. "Aliens" as we call no-locals often ease drop on our conversations. Once an even older, well-dressed couple were nearby and listening. As they finished the husband got up to pay and the elegantly dressed wife in her 80's came over to our table and politely asked to say something. Stating she had been listing and that this table was a perfect example as to why first cousins shouldn't marry and then just waddled away.

I can relate to that. We have a very diverse but loaded with common sense group. At our age the group is getting smaller and no clue how long it will last. At one time we had 4 retired police officers all from different departments and states, a couple construction workers a retired business owner and a few that are sort of hard to define.

Most of the group are gear heads have the same views on life and to be honest rather intelligent. One one X cop left now.

We many times have other people join in most of them laughing and commenting about a point they agree with. We start out trying to solve international problems, then state problems and work down to local issues!

Well, if nothing else, she gets style points for dressing nicely, being polite, and having a sense of humor.

Many elitists believe there is no place for "the common people". Truth is the common people are the backbone of our society.

The arrogance of that comment is a big part of the problems we have today.

"Take Aways" and "Hire Cars" are things I learned not to say after getting here.

I think the comment was an elitist viewpoint.

I read the Met Gala thread and understand your thought. There are some parallels.

Note that only the rancher is described as "well-respected." Unclear whether this is a comment about the reputations of ranchers in general (with this one being an exception) or the low esteem in which the other members of the breakfast group are held.

Dear 30-30 . Your post reminded me of my Grandfathers saying. Too early learn, to late to get smart. My grandfather was a wise man.

We recognize both terms in Georgia-

Interesting...I would have thought "Keep Your Pecker Up" would have been the very first! Fond memories of my God Mother telling the story of how fast she learned to keep that one to herself after moving here.
