Help requested, Joplin MO <<<<<<<<READ Please!!
It is with some sadness that I find myself in Joplin MO for the next few days needing a little assistance .
While on a US road trip my wife and I were in a vehicle collision. She is in hospital overnight (I hope) and then we need to arrange to get home again.
To add to the situation all our cases etc are in the salvage yard in Carthage and I have been told taxi’s are scarce in Joplin.
Are there any members in this area who could help with a little transport and someone to talk to?
Sorry to impose but being 8,000 miles from home and trying to work things out is proving harder than I thought

Sorry, so sorry to hear that I truly hope your wife is OK. That’s a helpless feeling to be in a foreign country and be in a bind needing help. I’m in Oklahoma City if you were a little closer, I would be glad to help out and you can PM me if you want.

Kiwi,
Really sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope your wife is Okay to be released by tomorrow, I will pray for her, and you.
Hopefully a forum member close to Joplin will see your post and assist.
Accidents and break-downs have always been my greatest concerns when traveling.
There are two cab companies in Joplin per the Internet.
City Taxi: Phone 417-623-5577
Cross Taxi: Phone 417-609-1109
I hope this is helpful. I am over 1,000 road miles away or I would be glad to help.

First, I hope your wife is OK - that obviously is the most important thing. And as others have stated, I'm a pretty far drive from MO to realistically lend a hand in person. If any other assistance can be provided, financial or otherwise, I'll gladly chip in.

Brent, like others here I feel bloody helpless. If I had a transporter I would fire it up.
We here will keep this thread rolling hoping that members in your vicinity get a chance to see it.
Prayers for Karen's injuries and quick resolution of your predicament

The Uber probably took care of 70% of your most immediate problems.
The rest should be easier.
We probably have members a few blocks away, but only ACTIVE members count.
And we're pretty far flung.

She has broken ribs and a broken finger.
Still in the high dependency ward. Going for cat scan to ensure no bleeding in the brain. I doubt she’ll be discharged today but maybe taken to a normal ward.

Wow, sounds like a bad wreck! Didn't you upgrade from a small car to a Ford Explorer SUV? Sounds like things could have been much worse in a small vehicle.

Not specifically related, but be aware the NRA has a fairly inexpensive comprehensive emergency medical insurance plan for members that covers unexpected sickness or accidents that can occur while traveling anywhere, US or foreign. I have carried it for about 5 years but fortunately I have not needed to use it.

Thursday update
I thought that given all the support we have received this week on the forum it was past time for an update.
Karen is slowly getting stronger. The moved her this afternoon from the ICU/HDU to a medical ward. When we spoke to the drs this morning they thought it would be another 24 hours, depending on the reports from the physical therapists, so that is good news.
I got dropped off by an Uber at a Walmart about two miles from here yesterday to get a few things (mainly some mandarins for Karen as she enjoy# them and was craving some). Wouldn’t you know it, when it was time to get a ride to the hotel the Uber app was down, and stayed that was for several hours.
I ended up walking back to the hotel in a hospital issue medical sandal. It took almost an hour and today my ankle is swollen again, but at least I can get it into my Aasic shoes if not my hiking sandals.
From now on I will be posting updates on the road trip thread as this one has, I feel, run its course.
