Two Beretta 9mm's in the hands of an expert marksman with extensive combat training and experience. They shot the wrong dog...
Here's an excerpt from War History Online Nov. 1, 2021:
On the evening of April 1, 2009, Marcus Luttrell heard a gunshot. After checking to ensure his mother was okay inside the house, he went outside and saw DASY, his Labrador Retriever, dead from a gunshot wound to her left shoulder. Not far from his home, he noticed a suspicious vehicle parked along the side of the road, which he suspected held those responsible.
“I could tell [DASY] tried to get away because there was a blood trail,” Luttrell told the Houston Chronicle. “When I saw she was dead, the only thing that popped into my head was, ‘I’ve got to take these guys out.'” His beloved pet had been given to him by America’s VetDogs to help him emotionally recover from his experiences in the Middle East.
Despite still recovering from surgery, Luttrell grabbed his 9 mm pistol, crawled under a fence and snuck up on the vehicle. As the car sped away, the US Navy SEAL jumped into his pickup truck and began what quickly became a high-speed chase, with both vehicles clocking in at over 100 MPH. Luttrell called 911 during the pursuit and remained on the line as he followed the suspect vehicle. While he eventually lost sight of it, Texas Rangers soon caught up with and arrested those responsible.
Alfonso Hernandez and Michael Edmonds were charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal, while the car’s driver was cited for not having a valid license. According to police, they’d been linked to at least five other area killings in the months leading up to the shooting. Edmonds pleaded guilty to the charges against him and received five years probation. Hernandez chose to stand trial, was found guilty and received the maximum sentence of two years in state prison. He was also fined $1,000.

I don’t care if it’s Karl Marx’s or Kim Jong Un’s you don’t shoot the dog! There are certain lines you don’t cross. Especially for an American war hero and legend.

Gotta remember that Marcus was just 2-3 years past shooting people in the face for a living, and his dog was a therapy dog that he had named in honor of the guys who died on that mountain beside him. He showed remarkable restraint and professionalism. And they were lucky as hell. Killing someone a SEAL loves is not conducive to a long life.

"...they'd been linked to at least 5 other area killings..."
So, did they stand trial or get accused for those, or is it ongoing?
I think I would've liked to see him catch the guys, but he's walking free, no hastles besides his great loss.

Don't know about the other ones, but for this one, one guy flipped and got probation, the other got the maximum. 2 years and a fine.

Not the case here but in Montana and Idaho it is legal to shoot any dogs harassing livestock by the owner or agent of said stock. Along with open range, [if you don't want cows on your land, fence them out] you had better know where your dogs are.

You just don't mess with a man's dog , especially when the man is emotionally attached to his dog . It's just too bad this didn't happen in Faulkner's patrol area . He rescued Daisy , so I think between the two of them those boys would have been in a hurt locker .

Or do like my grandfather did about open range. Inform the owner of said livestock your planting sorghum. Then keeping his cows from dying from consuming it becomes his problem.

I think Faulkner and Daisy would play it straight and get them corralled without any "serious" damage. Probably only a few minor bites and bruises here and there...

Retired Navy SEAL veteran of multiple deployments, missing in action for weeks after being the sole survivor of his team in Afghanistan, Navy Cross personally awarded by President G.W. Bush.
Those boys were smart enough to run, and lucky enough to be able to surrender to Texas cops rather than trying to deal with Chief Luttrell on some lonely country road.
