Scottie Scheffler arrested.
It seems that the world’s #1 pro golfer now has a mugshot. He was arrested this morning at the PGA championship in Louisville while trying to drive around barricades that had been erected as a result of an earlier fatal accident.
He was handcuffed and booked in for felony assault on a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving and failure to follow an officer’s directions. The judge released him on his own recognizance.

It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do,” he said in a statement on Instagram. “I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.”
Scheffler’s attorney, Steven Romines, told CNN in a statement Friday that Scheffler was headed to the golf course to prepare for his tee time at the PGA Championship.
“Due to the combination of event traffic and a traffic fatality in the area it was a very chaotic situation. He was proceeding as directed by another traffic officer and driving a marked player’s vehicle with credentials visible,” Romines said. “In the confusion, Scottie is alleged to have disregarded a different officer’s traffic signals resulting in these charges.”
Romines says multiple eyewitnesses have confirmed that Scheffler “did not do anything wrong” but drove as directed.

Something happened somewhere between idiot behind wheel and LEO overreaction.
Often enough I've approached a scene at night where between the overheads and the area illuminator on the light bar I couldn't see squat beyond the vehicle. Slowing to a crawl more often than not results in PO'd cop screaming in my ear.

One of the charges, if I heard correctly, is 2nd degree assault on a law enforcement officer.
Scheffler is no stranger to pressure as he's ranked #1 in the world, so this charge has peaked my curiosity. I don't see him flying off the handle.
As posted above, I want to see the body cam footage. That will determine whether or not this and other charges stick.

Officer was in a rain coat and Scheffler said he didn’t know if security or cop. And of course, it was dark and raining. Other players have said it was mass chaos near the entry so there’s lots to digest.

I know how that happens...
At a road crossing at a RR switchyard there was a train with a load of wood chips coming very slowly, as is usual. A yard worker standing at the road waved me across. The yard worker watching the train started cussing me out for going across.

Old Bear where did you see the bodycam footage? I guess nevermind since your post was changed and now doesn't mention the bodycam footage.
People disregard traffic directions all the time.
Rain and dark and not always are officers doing the best job of directing traffic.
My best guess is a perfect storm of driver having head up their fourth point of contact and the charge of "contempt of cop".
Detective working assignment apparently grabbed onto the car and was drug a short distance. Mistake to grab a moving car but they took away the metal flashlights that were good for rapping on the car to get someone's attention to have them stop.
Will probably work itself out.

I read that reportedly his car grazed an officer on the way by. The officer was not injured.

I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions just yet.
From what I hear, he is not the kind of guy that would intentionally cause ANY kind of trouble.
It’s more likely the uniformed guy overreacted.

Been on talk radio all afternoon. The way I see it it was a cop with a big ego doing a job he didn't want to do and took it out the first person who didn't do just what he wanted right or wrong.

It sounds like the Judge, might know a little bit about the game of Golf
or the players, and what might have been at stake?
I don't know if I would like to be that LE, if he was trying to keep the player from getting to his game or tee time, with all the money that is involved?
I hope this does not turn into a can of worms.

The Governor of Kentucky made a statement.

I predict all charges will be dismissed and payment of fine for a minor misdemeanor traffic violation. This arrest is NOT going to go anywhere.

From Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg today:
"The officer did not have body cam footage turned on during the incident," Greenberg said Saturday, via the Louisville Courier-Journal. "We will release footage that we have ... to my knowledge, we have not yet discovered any video of the initial contact between Officer Gillis and Mr. Scheffler."
The footage he is referring to is from an ESPN reporter.

It might have thrown his game off a little, since he did not do well and
has to pick up a hand full of strokes to get near the leader.
The course seems to have beem a tuff layout the other day, since the leaders and Rory missed LOTS of birdie chances that I thought, should have been made.
However, one gentleman had a chance at a 61 on the 18th hole and
missed it by "That much"!!
It should be a good race on Sunday for the top 12 players.

Seems the officer had an "interesting" career record. Looks like this was the last straw.

I read two main stream articles yesterday that said he was fired. As of now they have been edited to state that he is suspended.

I get my real news from the National Enquirer. Of course, the bar is the place for legal advice.
I hate to see a person lose his or her job for being a dink. Give him a plate reader and a pad for parking tickets. And his pay equal for the job. Six months of this “probationary period” may change his attitude, if in fact he was wrong. Heck, he may have marital issues or worse, a sick dog. Everyone deserves a second, third or fifth chance!

I'll bet that this is not the first time the LE guy has done some questionable things, like violating policy. This is probably the first time he had to face consequences. This got too big for the higher ups to look the other way and say "we investigated ourselves and found nothing wrong". If it had been a regular person his life would be ruined.
