Default General Patton Items at VMI Museum

Attended a lecture yesterday at the George Marshall Foundation at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. Lecture was about the friendship and professional relationship between General Marshall and General Patton. Marshall was a 1901 graduate of VMI and Patton attended one year prior to going to West Point. Here are some pictures of Patton items at the post museum. Highly recommend you visit if travelling I-81 through Va.

The firearms museum next door is also a must visit. Forget the name of the restaurant on a corner downtown but Very good and hope its still open.

I have a second home on the grounds of Fort Clark TX (which was closed in 1946), East of Del Rio TX. Many of the original Indian War Army structures are still in place and are being used. Patton served there in the late 1930s and his on-base house is a designated historic site (not open to visitors) along with the General Jonathan Wainwright house. There is a small museum there (the former post guardhouse) with many items from Fort Clark's early history, along with quite a few guns. There is on display in the museum a number of Patton's personal possessions there also, but none of his guns. During WWII, Fort Clark was an internment camp for German POWs captured in North Africa, and many items from that time are also displayed.

You have the Palms on the corner and The Southern Inn there also. Great town to visit. I only live about 45 minutes away and have several friends there. Yes, the firearms part of the museum is downstairs. Lots of early Colt revolvers, military training rifles and air rifles from the 1800s. A fine collection.
