It's Always Something, update #18
Just when it seems that I finally scraped enough pennies together to get a new gun, the deck on my old lawnmower starts to come apart while I was cutting my grass today.
We have a small yard and the mower's 'bout 20 years old but it still runs great and starts on the first pull.
Seems like a coupla decades of the deck flexing at the handle brackets finally took it's toll.
I figure I can store it in the shed for spare parts, everything else on it seems fine.
I'm just gonna havta use my gun money on a new mower.

Bolt a thin steel plate to the top of the deck and then bolt the engine to it. I know that it works.

Snubby, make sure you mount a scabbard or holster on the new mower just in case one of those Moles or Groundhogs goes off the rails.

Maybe you can find a cheap mower on Craigslist or some mower repair shop and do an engine transplant to it.
I also have an old mower that still runs fine. But mine is only about 15 and the deck is still intact. Was looking at newer mowers at HD a few weeks ago. They sure are proud of them these days judging by their prices.

Dang it! Just the way it seems to go around here sometimes.
Just had a stick out back after some of my own yardwork and was thinking of you, Wayne.

Good luck finding a decent gas powered mower that you can afford. My $399 Honda 6hp self propelled is nearing the end of its’ service life. I haven’t found a replacement under $4 digits. Been changing oil regularly with “high mileage” synthetic and giving it “positive waves.” Joe

I just checked Craig's list in my area. Buncha 'em on there. One self proplelled Toro with blade stop, 190 cc engine, $80...
(Better get on a plane and fly over here to the PNW pronto, Snubby, and snap it up quick before somebody else jumps on it...)

I buy the cheapest non-self-propelled new mower I can find. I never change the oil but sometimes add oil. I seldom if ever change the air filter. These mowers last a long time.

Find some kid that'll mow your lawn for $25 , just for a while , and go buy your gun . Then save up and go get the mower . You have to get your priorities in line .

This. I want to see the full Snubby review of the new gun in the other forum.

You should post a pic of the broke mower part. One of us may have an idea how to fix/rig it up for a few more years of service.

Buy a nanny goat. The goat keeps the lawn short. Sell the goat's milk.
The lawn grooming will then be free. Buy the gun.

You could "mow" with a 12 ga. Just keep it low.

Snubby I had that problem with an old mower. Had a still running Honda 160 cc on it. The motors whichever one you have all have a common footprint. Do some searching on replacement decks on the internet-which is what I did-and find one to swap out. Cost me $110 for the deck and delivery and I have a "new" mower. Those things ain't cheep any more and the thought of throwing away a good motor just grinded my gears. You ought to be able to scrounge repair shops for an old deck that will fit.

I had a local built (Lil' Tiger) 20" 4hp Briggs that wouldn't die. Two bolts each side held the handle to the deck, left side cracked then broke leaving a small hole in the deck after almost 20 years of use. Found some flat stock, drilled it and bolted it thru beneath the deck. Good for another 5 years until the metal again got weak. Sold it to a neighbor for a buck who had welding skills, still was going strong when he moved on 5 years later.

One thought comes to mind; JB Weld and some metal plate.
Maybe duct tape and a can of spray paint to finish it off.

Take that one step farther.
Find your local mower/small engine repair place and buy a used deck from them from a mower with a blown up motor.
You probably can get the used deck for $25 or $30 and mount your engine onto it. VOILA' - you're back in business.

Forget the lawn mower, buy a goat and then use the money to buy a gun.

Seems like a sensible idea......if the goat gets injured or stops working; well, I hear goat BBQ is pretty good.
