Somewhere Between Panama City & Destin
Looking to spend a few days in the panhandle beginning of June. Beachfront with a stovetop and fridge, one or two story Mom&Pop old school place if any left after the storms.
Anniversary trip to somewhere neither of us have been.
Found Sea Oats in Destin but already booked up.
Suggestions much appreciated.

Fort Walton Beach was really nice when I was there circa 1988. I've never seen such pure white sand. We went to a bar one evening that had a dock on the Gulf. It seemed incredibly cool that people would pull up in their boats, have a good time, then take the boat back home.
I would like to go back for another visit some day.

Mexico Beach, a little further east, is a favorite for simple folk around here.

Ft. Walton?
Been several places here and there , but that’s the Whitest Sand I’ve ever seen!
I guess I’m thinking of Santa Rosa Island.
And When the Sun gets low in the West,
you can find me over at Capt. Dave’s.

Haven't been in a while, but we used to stay at a vacation rental in Grayton Beach. Nice beach and convenient to PC and Destin.

Hungry?
When you get hungry, try the Shrimp Basket in Destain. Had dinner there this afternoon, wife had fried catfish basket and I had cajun shrimp gumbo The "Emeral Coast" is a great place to visit. If the coast is booked up go north up to one of the small towns 25-30 miles from the coast. Food is good and people are friendly! And you are only minutes from the water. Highly recommend you visit Santa Rosa Island for friendly bars, white sands and old Civil War Forts.

Is Mexico Beach back? I haven't been east of Cedar Grove in more than 20 years, but my understanding is Michael pretty much wiped Mexico Beach off the map.

I really don't know. Ads appear to show it is.

Have been to Saint George island many times, though now prices for a place to stay are getting on the steep side. Nice beach, quiet, family oriented.

I've been all around Destin several times over the last few years. Beach front lodging is much more expensive than hotels and Air B&Bs a 1/4 mile away from the beach or further but may be worth it to you. You can't go wrong with any of the beaches around there, the white sand is beautiful and doesn't stick to your skin as much as darker sand. Allegiant airlines has cheap non stop flights from OKC and it's usually less expensive than driving and the airport is also pretty close to the beach.

1st floor with kitchenette, dune view, lighthouse within throwing distance and a Piggly Wiggly a block or two away.
Long drive for the 40th anniversary, won't quite break the budget but she's worth it.
St. George island here we come
