I have been watching the Olympics on and off since they started. Luckily, I didn’t watch the opening ceremonies! I don’t watch USA basketball or women’s soccer. But many of the competitions have been awesome. Last night the two that I enjoyed most were the Men’s 1500m won by American Cole Hocker when he went from 5th place to beating the World Champion in the last 300 meters in Olympic Record time!

My other from last night was the women’s 200m. American Gabby Thomas won going away and was spectacular! This young lady is special. She graduated from Harvard University with degrees in neurobiology and global health as an undergraduate, and then in May 2023 she finished her Master’s degree in epidemiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Gabby is beautiful with one of the prettiest smiles I have ever seen!

But, what was my favorite thing about these 2 sports stars? After the races, they found their family and friends in the stands and celebrated with them, and were given American flags. They each draped themselves with the flag and ran around soaking in the experience and the cheering crowd! In their interviews they were so happy to win gold for their family, their team, and their country! This was really heart warming for me considering how some athletes have acted in the past.

Check out their videos below, and be sure to watch them until the end so you can see their interviews. You will have to copy and paste the titles below in YouTube to view them. They won’t let me link the actual video.

I've watched bits of it here and there. It's not as enjoyable with the sound muted and I can't hear the players and crowd. But, I can't stand the constant commentator yammering. Artistic Swimming was on, a graceful and athletic sport with outstanding teamwork and music. And yap yap yapping.

I thought this was the techno age. Why can't I choose to listen to sports without commentators if I choose, while people who like it can enjoy it to their heart's content?

I huge futball/soccer fan so the men's and women's games are great! That being said, I'm not fond of the USWNT. When the US anthem plays there are a number of players who look annoyed that they have do the formality and a few who will NOT bother to put hands over their hearts. If they can't be bothered to respect our anthem, I can't be bothered to cheer for them. I'll be rooting for Brazil in the gold medal match.

I'm thoroughly enjoying women's track and field and love women's beach volley ball!

I was watching with a couple of friends and someone asked "Who's winning?" I replied, "We all are!"

I've been watching a bunch of the events, and DVR'ing others. I'll agree the comments on Gabby Thomas - a beautiful girl inside and out. I'll make the same comment about Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

That why I enjoyed watching the two athletes I mentioned! They ran, with pride, for their country. I won’t watch the women’s soccer at all.

ZGrand, I didn’t see Sydney run. I will have to watch her video. I had never even heard of Gabby Thomas until this week. She definitely is the complete package! She’s intelligent, beautiful, athletic, an Olympic gold metal winner (with maybe more chances in Paris), and a prideful American.

...Artistic Swimming was on, a graceful and athletic sport with outstanding teamwork and music. ...

I'd never paid much attention to Artistic Swimming until these Olympics, but I agree with your comments 100%. Even though it's called "artistic", these female athletes must be in superb shape to do what they do. They have to be able to hold their breath underwater for up to two minutes while performing vigorous choreographed exercise. I was very impressed. I will also admit to being very impressed by the swimming costumes they were almost wearing.;)

I hear they're....

I hear some swimmers got sick from swimming in that sewer of a river. Some others refuse to swim in it.

Going to have the summer games in Venice next year. They say the tides will clean out the canals. =8^ O=--=-=--

It's been mostly on in the background for me, but I intently watched a few things and admittedly have been both entertained and proud of most American athletes and their performances. It great to see the US post wins on the track in events that have been evasive for us for many years.

I think a few of the games not sports, should be dropped.

I see no reason for the 3/4 size court Basketball thing, or the one where they run around tossing a Bean Bag into a soccker net.

Yes, Gabby is easy on the eyes, and Fast, too !!

I have watched some of the shooting and Archery. The Trap was difficult to watch as the video didn't show the "hits" very well, and you couldn't appreciate who and how broke the birds. Pistol and rifle was interesting, but the hold time for some of the shooters (8-10 seconds) exceeds what I have ever been taught about breath control and oxygen control. I do like the side by side video of the shooters with the screen of the target and the electronic scoring.
Archery was easier to watch as you can see the release of the arrow and the flight and hit. Having been a tournament archery shooter (40+ years ago) I caught myself analyzing the form of the shooters. I could usually tell a center hit by the time the arrow left the bow, and I was right about 90% of the time. There was one 16 yr old woman that took out a high level world champ and her smiles were 10 ft wide. I noticed there were really only a few changes in equipment from when I shot. Same type bow, little different stabilizer, same finger tab, same "clicker" same type sight, no kisser buttons or peep sights so common on the compound bows.

Can relate to this, after having swam in the Susquehanna river during Harrisburg Kipona events in the late 60's early 70's. At the time a lot of raw sewage went in the river without passing go.

Interesting tidbits about the Seine.

Here'''s what to know about Seine River water quality during the Paris Olympics | AP News.

Yikes!

“Paris, like many old cities around the world, has a combined sewer system, which means that the city’s wastewater and stormwater flow through the same pipes”
