I'm talking about a nice hunting coat (preferably dark green waxed cotton) WITH A GAME POUCH. I don't want it for country walks in the shire, nor do I want it for urban wear. I want it to wear in the field-swing a shotgun and put small birds, birds and/or rabbits in the pouch. Don't care if it gets stained or has left over feathers in it-just want it to be waterproof and allow me to swing a shotgun.
Filson is nice but no game pouch. Barbour is nice but no game pouch. The outback is nice but my days of Drover'ing are long past and wearing dusters doesn't work on us short fat coon ***es. Help me out here guys. Do not need nor want camo-my camo is to shut up and stay still-has worked for me- but if a jacket has a game pouch and lets me swing a shotgun, I'll wear camo.
Oh and while I'm grousing' saw a nice pair of "wader' pants by Sitka for only $345. Whatever happened to wearing a pair of $15 Walmart sweatpants under the waders???
This bougie hunting stuff is really getting out of hand!!!!!!!!!!!!

Google “Paul Harrell’s shooting jacket”, God rest him. It’s long out of production, but has what you want, I think. EBay might have something like it.

LLBean has what you are looking for - Men’s Double L Waxed Cotton Upland Coat in loden color. I have the same coat in brown and have bird hunted in in for more than 10 years. Good quality and has held up well. Currently on sale for $225. Only complaint - I’ve grown some during the last 10 years and it’s a little snug.

I've been buying Drake gear the past few years. I believe it's made in Olive Branch, Mississippi and it's good stuff although I think they cater mainly to waterfowl hunters.

Mine doesn't have a game pouch, but then again I wasn't looking for that feature either. When I small game hunt I have a hunting vest with game pouch and shotgun shell holders that I wear over my hunting coat.

I bought a Filson in the late 90's for $250, it has all the features you mentioned. I thought it would last the rest of my life. But about 6 years ago my wife sinned by throwing it in the washer! (That would remove the last bits of Wax Proofing. When it came out of the washer From the top of the right pocket down "Dissolved!"

AS a rite on repentance, she bought a replacement. A Barbour XXL Classic Beaufort at about $479. The hood was $79, and the liner was $179!

I took an Army Field Jacket Liner that cost $15, and my wife sewed in buttons, saving a fortune! I bought the hood, and the whole set-up works great.

In the game pouch I keep a small survival kit at all times that is in a little waxed canvas bag, made from my first coat. I all set for Hot/Cold and Wet/Dry. BTW The left front pocket alone will hold 100 410 shells!

Ivan

Warning: ALL Barbour coats are left hand zip! It's a Europe thing!

I have a Barbour, but I don't need game pocket....no whitetail deer will fit there anyhow.

The pockets are big enough to accommodate a warming beverage of your choice however.

Woolrich has what you’re looking for but I’ve only seen it in light or dark brown. Most companies refer to them as upland game costs. I’ve been wearing Woolrich Wool Buffalo Plaid for almost 40 yrs. Can’t wear them out.

I have a wonderfully well-featured hunting coat from Beretta. I liked it so much, I bought a similar vest from them as well. They were very expensive but I got them both on clearance. I guess they were on clearance because they were being discontinued... they don't make a similar jacket these days. :-(

Google Orvis bird hunting coat. Waxed canvas with game pouch. I've had one for years, not cheap but quality gear. My only complaint is the flannel lining can get a bit warm, depending on the weather you're hunting in.

Yup, Orvis makes what you’re looking for. Dry waxed cotton canvas, waist length with a game pouch. They don’t give ‘em away but the coat will probably last longer than you do.

Another vote for Orvis.
From their website:
Orvis Heritage Field Coat | Orvis
Yep! That's the one. Thanks guys just ordered it.

Sale going on at Orvis right now. I don't pay much attention to their sales because they never include "fishing stuff". But, I think I saw 50 bucks off of a $200 purchase. Worth a look. Their clothing and accessories are top notch, just require a bunch of folding money.

My wife loves it when I dress up and wear some nice fancy clothes when we go to a banquet or gala fundraiser but for hunting, I don't care what I look like. Cheap hunting stuff from Walmart or Academy Sports seems to work just fine and I have a camo vest and an upland bird hunting vest both covered with blood that perform very well. I like spending money on clothes but not hunting or fishing clothes.
