Anyone else watching/watched this? I’m a little late to the party. Just found out about it last week. My wife and I are 4 episodes in. I love the authenticity of the guns. Game wardens are carrying S&Ws and Falconer guy Carrie’s a Freedom arms. Which is pretty impressive for a guy that looks homeless lol. I think Picketts .22 is and old Remington Scoremaster bolt action. I have the semi auto version. The only two snafus I’ve noticed is, he got the rifle as a child. It was in the original box so I’m assuming it was new. Pickett appears to be 35-45 yrs old. The dates don’t really line up. Also in one seen he appeared to have a left handed bolt action of some sort. But maybe it was a “camera thing” . Anyways so far so good. We like it.

Lol I know, the checking of the cylinder drives me nuts in any movie. In the episode where they have to camp out on their way to Crazy Lady Creek the dopey deputy wakes up and checks chamber on his shotgun. I looked at my wife and said I guess he was afraid it unloaded itself overnight

Not an excellent series by any means, but worth watching once. Never paid attention to the gun etiquette; the story took precedence as it should.

Amazon cancelled it after the second season. I heard that Box didn't like how they were presenting his stories. In the books Joe doesn't sing. I like the books better, but Joe gets himself into some real pickles.

I've read the whole series of books, a couple of them twice. I enjoy them for what they are....fictitious entertainment. The author does a decent job with the gun related script, although in one of the first books, I think, he writes that Joe keeps only 5 rounds in his S&W 66 so his hammer rests on an empty chamber.....Wh...WHAT? And a couple of diferent times he writes of how Nate's scoped 454 Casull is accurate out to a mile. Even with these exaggerations, he still creates a good read.
The TV series lost me after about 20 minutes with the computer generated elk at a haystack.

I've either read or own all of the Joe Picket series.

I don't recall Joe using or carrying a Model 66 at all. I do recall him carrying a Glock 40, Model 22 I think?

The Nate Romanowski character in the books uses a Freedom Arms .454 Casul. And has a scope on it too. I want to say in the later books, he switched to a .500 Linebaugh caliber, but I could be wrong on that? Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.

The books are somewhat true-to-life, IMO. A game warden who loves his wife, has marital insecurities & a witch for a mother-in-law. :D

With rare, rare exceptions, I'm always highly disappointed with a show or movie that's based on a good book. The Godfather is an exception, as is The Outlaw Josey Wales.

I've watched seasons one and two of Joe Pickett. If you've read the books before, I was a bit confused. Season one is a mish-mash of the first and third books, Open Season and Winterkill.

After watching season two, I personally wasn't surprised it was cancelled.

Just like the many books series, the concept has been adapted to the screen. Characters from the books recast. Nate Romanowski in the books is a 'ruggedly handsome, tall, blond, white man, former special forces' Kind of like casting Lou Diamond Phillips as Henry Standing Bear in Longmire...

Yes he definitely Carrie’s a 66 in season 1…. The other Warden Wasy carries what I believe is a 686.

I doubt the TV series can even get close to doing justice to the story line.

I've read the entire series, and I'm looking forward to the next book, Battle Mountain, due out in 2025.

It is best to start with book one and enjoy your way through the story as Box builds the characters and story elements. You miss too much by skipping story steps, which is the problem with the TV series.
