A couple of nights ago a Texan hit this Big Boy in Uvalde County, TX.
Hold on - that’s where those Goats were sneaking me in the dark.
The ones I pulled down on with my trusty Model 19.
He used a Ford Navigator on this Mountain Lion.

I have seen at least a half-dozen big cats in the next county (Kinney) west of Uvalde over a 20 year period. Never shot one or saw one close to a Highway. A fairly desolate area, and sparsely populated, only two small towns (which are across the highway from each other). But lots of deer.

Saw that on farcebook. Not sure if it's really from where it claims since it's farcebook, and there are tons of false claims on there. The lady that posted it claims the dog is a mini Australian and weighs 15 lbs, so I guess that gives some estimate for the size of the cat - again, if it's true.

Note, I am not questioning whether there are mountain lions in the Hill Country. There certainly are. Deer are abundant, and that's the favorite prey of the kitties.

Oh, Navigator is a Lincoln. The Ford version is Expedition. Same, but different.

I've never been fortunate enough to see a mountain lion in the wild. I did see a freshly killed lion carcass in a taxidermy shop in NW Colorado about ten years ago. I was amazed at the overall size and the size of the paws.

My father once had to go pick up a cat a farmer had shot. On the way back to the office, he stopped by the house to get lunch. The cat was in the back of the truck, on a canvas tarp. Well, he just pulled it out on the front lawn and let us kids examine the animal. I remember being really surprised by how much muscle was in the tail. It wasn't no domestic cat tail, that's for sure.

By the way, if you let 3 small children play with a large cougar carcass on the front lawn, you will stop traffic. Of course, the first guy was a farmer who had his shotgun halfway out of his truck before he realized we weren't being attacked.

The Bandera Chat looks legitimate and there have been other mountain lion sightings in the area.

THE PILGRIM posted the full picture of the mountain lion she ran over and her dog and everything in the Bandera Chat looks to be legitimate.

As a side note……
My father in law lived in Archer City, Texas for over 50 years and always had different farm animals. He later raised Barbado Sheep and had about 20 acres fronting US25 Highway. In the late 80’s and early 90’s he began to loose a Barbado Sheep once in a while and spotted a mountain lion several times. He started extending his fences height to 8’ in height. Thats about the minimum height to deter a mountain lion. Before all the fences got raised my father in law and mother in law was down between his tank dam and a big plum thicket and Polly accidentally flushed the mountain lion off of a sheep he had killed and dragged into the thicket. The mountain lion ran to the back of the property, jumped the original fence and was gone. Scared my mother in law to death. Melvin had went to the local library and read about the mountain lion habits and capabilities. That’s when he started raising his fences. He also read in print that adult male mountain lions can range as much as 500 miles and farther. I had no idea they could roam so far. After all the fences were raised he didn’t loose any more Sheep. The mountain lion moved on I guess. When Melvin died in 2008 he still had about 60 Barbado sheep

I've seen three cougars in person. One was huge, I would estimate 150 lbs. The others were much smaller which is far more typical. I think most adults are between 60-100 lbs.

My vehicular encounters with ungulates have fortunately all been close calls. I've never actually hit one (so far). I did bump over an elk carcass in the middle of a lonely far west Texas Ranch Road about 4am. I saw it too late to steer around, so I went overtop. Fortunately it was already dead, and no damage resulted to the vehicle.
