We all know SDavis JR was a great gun handler, but I only read about Jerry Lewis being good at it. Except in the Martin-Lewis western comedy “Pardners” where he and Dean Martin twirl their guns in one scene. I just found this of both guys together. Lewis banters and plays it for laughs too much but you can see he’s really good. It should be noted that SD uses the harder to spin 7 1/2” Colt. Sammy appears to be using the same gun and Ojala rig that he had in one “The Rifleman” episode.

Sammy was on at least 3 episodes of The Rifleman, showing off his skills. Also, I'm pretty sure he was on Johnny Carson showing off. I never knew that about Jerry Lewis. I guess lots of practice and a soft floor.
You’re right about that. I do it over a bed. I already put a dent in our hard wood floor spinning an 1875 Remington repro. During Covid lock down I was bored and made this video sending it to my 87 year old friend Jim Martin who is an expert 2 gun twirler and fast draw champ. He told me over the phone how to flip the gun out of the holster and then catch it. Gun is an engraved Colt .45. Another reason to do this over a bed.

I was reading an article about James Stewart one time. He said that when he was practicing for his first Western, he belted on the gun, and then stood in the middle of his bed, and practice drawing and holstering and a little spinning, to try to get the feel of the gun and look like he knew what he was doing. And when he dropped it it landed on the mattress instead of the floor.

Did anybody else wince when Lewis's gun Hit the floor all them times?

There was on older gentleman on one of the American Pickers episodes who worked in Hollywood teaching the actors how to handle pistols and ropes. He was impressive even in advanced years. I don't remember his name.

Yeah, just for a couple laughs he let it hit the floor a couple times.
I saw somewhere that for the film “Winchester 73” the studio gave James Stewart a ‘73 rifle to take home and practice handling and levering it so he would look like he knew what he’s doing. It sure worked! The final rifle gunfight is excellent, gritty, and very realistic.

I don't remember that. Sammy was good!
