I got an email from them last week saying my credit score had a major change. I never click the link in emails, so I went online to their site, and logged in.

My score had dropped 200 points! I checked it out and a credit agency called Credit Systems INTL IN. had put a collection on me. I called them to see what was up. The company that contacted them was Reliant Energy Retail Services in Texas.

Someone on Pineville Lane in Spring Texas had opened a gas or electric account in my name on June 10th 2024. The account was closed on October 11th 2024.

The credit agency said I can make a fraud claim thru IdentityTheft.gov. I started that, and called the power company. They said they needed that info, plus a police report.

Has anyone ever filled a police report over credit fraud?

Scammers suck!

I just filed out an affidavit of forgery and had it notarized. Never had to make a police report. If I was asked to make a police report I would have.

My American Express was used in Mexico and $5K was charged on it

My credit union debit card was used in Texas to pay for residential fuel oil after i used it at a Love's gas station in Amarillo Texas.

I stayed at a hotel in Tennessee and then my credit card had Amazon Prime charges on it.

Contact your local PD and advise them you need to make a report for Identity Theft and Fraud.

They may say that it is outside of their jurisdiction, which would be true, since it happened elsewhere.

If that is the case I would contact the local PD in the location where the bill was from and have them file the report.

Just explain the circumstances and advise them that you were advised to make a police report.

I have taken many such reports and every once in a while you actually find a suspect. Although not often.

Good luck.

Looks like it might be inside of Harris County, TX and the local LE there is the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Here are a couple of numbers. If nothing else should get you the number you need.

(713) 221-6000 Non-emergency

(346) 286-1600 Information Line

I made a Police report when there were 2 fraudulent credit card's opened up in my name. I called the CC companies involved and had both acct's closed and they made good on the charges. The Police Detective involved asked me if I would be willing to press charges if the person or person's involved were caught, I said I would. The Detective then asked me if the CC charges were reversed or if I had an out of pocket loss, I told her I had no out of pocket loss. She told me that since I had no out of pocket loss this case was of a low priority and probably would not be pursued. I never heard from the Police again, I guess they figured it wasn't worth the effort. The detective did advise me to put a freeze on my credit report's so no new acct's could be opened, I did that and have had no issues since.

I just filed two Medicare fraud reports totaling nearly $10,000 for durable medical supplies never requested nor received. Every time I visit a medical facility I am hit with scam calls. Thanks to the wide-open requirement for computerized medical records and probably zero vetting of medical hires, everyone's medical records and SS/Medicare numbers are an open book.

How do you get a $2500 electric bill in 4 months?

Being the 4 hottest months of the year in that area (not sure on that but for sure July, Aug, Sept) I would say they managed a $2500 electric bill very cool and comfortably.

If I am not paying the bill I don't care how much it is and I feel certain they were not sweating in that house.

The other factors could be you don't know how big the house is or how many people they had living there at the time.

Another option could be an indoor marijuana grow in the basement but I would have to know the water bill before I would go all in on that one.

All of my credit card companies and my only credit union debit card report every charge to me via text and email instantly as they are posted to my accounts. I check my credit card and bank accounts online several times a week, as I have had the occasional unexplained charge appear on an account. You cannot be too vigilant with regard to your credit and bank accounts as there are a lot of identity thieves out there on the dark web trying to take advantage of us.

In addition, I have three credit monitoring services that provide me with updates every month, and immediately if a suspicious activity shows up on one of my accounts. All three of these accounts are paid for by entities who have suffered security breaches of sensitive accountholder data, one of which was the United States Government!
