Default What Arizona gun shops are worth a visit?

Will be traveling to Arizona soon and wondered if anyone might suggest some gun shops to visit.

My interests are primarily pre 1965 Smith & Wessons and Colt SAA's (All generations). I will be in all areas of the state.

Shops with collector ammo and other sporting collectables are a plus.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Tucson:

Frontier Gun Shop on Grant, Jim is a gem and his shop has "things" you won't find elsewhere.

Murphy's on Country Club, great mainstream shop.

That’s about it, others don’t have anything old typically. Luckily Murphys and Frontier are about 3 minutes away from each other.

If you're around the Cave Creek area...try Cave Creek Guns just off Loop 101 and Cave Creek Road. It's not a big place but they always seem to have some great stuff inside...and they're happy to negotiate. Rare is the time I walk out of there empty handed.

AZ is full of gun stores...none are bad...some are just better than others.

Sir
Do not come to Yuma County looking for good guns. It is a poor and desolate place. There is barely enough here to satisfy my wants.

I haven't been in years but J&G in Prescott always had a massive selection of surplus, police trade ins, collectibles and imports. When the Shotgun News was a thing they always had a big multi page add right at the start. Looking at the web page it might still be worth a visit. Me and my friends left a lot of money there back in the day

We use to deploy to MCAS Yuma from MCAS Cherry Point, NC. When not fixing aircraft or partying, we would visit the gun shops in Yuma and wish we could buy stuff. The USMC took a dim view of us having guns in the barracks and transporting them back to NC in our baggage.

Pot of Gold Auctions (AZ Firearms) in Avondale has some items that may interest you. Check out their April 1st auction collection for a couple SAAs... you can bid without being there too.

I use to live in Buckeye and bought several firearms from them. Good people who've been in business a long time.

A little over fifty three years ago, I was passing through Texas, and stopped in a local hardware store, probably to buy a frying pan that I still have. I mean, how fast does a frying pan "wear out?" Anyway, they had some ammo. and probably some firearms, but I already had a few firearms, and it was post-68 , so I was mainly looking at the ammo, which included .30 Mauser, which had recently been discontinued by Remington. The ammo had not all that recently been manufactured, and had price tags which reflected its "vintage." I asked the price, and the salesman indicated that half-price was acceptable. I cleaned them out, to the satisfaction of both parties.

I realize that Texas is not Arizona, but to a DC resident (at that time), they both looked about the same.

Time flies when you're having a good time.

Smile Full disclosure

I've been in Tucson since last Wednesday, visiting family and vacationing. Today Murphy's Guns sold me a high condition 1st year-ish S&W Model 66. Good price, brutal shipping, but what are ya gonna do these days, complain? Nope, I'm happy and excited. It should be in Colorado before I am. I like Murphy's a lot.

Although not a museum I would have to visit Gary Reeder's shop, I think he's in Prescott...He did Ruger Old Army for me that although it took nearly a year was well worth the wait. I have heard his shop is neat and hard to get out of without dropping some cash.

Talking lots of choices in Arizona...

Another vote for Murphy's in Tucson, I've purchased/traded/sold half a dozen pistols over the years. My personal best score was a 6" Dan Wesson 44 Mag with Pachmyr grips in excellent condition. It was a consignment gun that had just come in, walked with it for $369! What a freaking cannon!

Picked up my MP 9 compact {new} with 2 spare mags for $325 almost 20 years ago. It was a dealer display gun and the 6 months they had to hold {and not sell it} expired the morning I went in.

Now that we moved up to Payson I hit Rim Country Guns mostly for ammo but always on the lookout for another to add to my collection. Almost pulled the trigger {yeah I know, bad pun...} on a nice Coach Gun, went back a couple of days later and it was gone... my bad.

I'd like to suggest AJI sporting goods on Main street/Apache Trail, in east Mesa. They are a family owned and run gun shop- Jeff Serdy is the owner and his son and daughter are almost always there, very knowledgeable about firearms, and Very polite and respectful- whether you're just looking -[usually like me] or you've got $$$ burning a hole in your pocket!
Seems like they've always got a fair amount of older, unusual revolvers and long guns to look at.
If you're there for just a short time, someone will ask if you need help, or if they can show you anything. No, I don't have any connection with them- other than contributing a lot of $$$ there!
Good luck and enjoy your stay in our beautiful state.

Buckshot Bill
