I WANT ONE

Tom, which brings up a question: if one is flying a drone, say half the size of a small crop duster, (pick a height?) Maybe 2500 ft. Alt., can USA Government radar pick it up? I’m talking out in the middle of nowhere in some SouthWest desert. Just wondering in case I’m there with a good gun, would they see it happen?

Any drone over 250 grams / 8.8 ounces must, according to law, be registered and have a transponder. The limit in size is 55 pounds. In addition, drones are limited to 400 feet above ground altitude, unless a waiver is obtained from the FAA.

And what would you do with it? Shooting a drone is illegal and a federal offense.
And what is so wrong with having options, not everybody inhales

I could understand the illegality of discharging a firearm at one overhead but is disabling one electromagnetically count as shooting one down? I would take the chance as a neighbor has been losing dropping his little ***'s around the neighborhood.
"Gee occifer I dunno, this aint the first time these things suddenly fell from the sky!"

As far as the FAA is concerned, a drone is just like a small airplane with a pilot (and possibly passengers) in it. Force one down, no matter how you do it, and if you get caught you are in serious -- SERIOUS! -- trouble.

That said, a lot of drone operators also violate FAA regulations for their operation. Especially minimum altitude rules. If you can document it, and identify the operator, then the operator is the one who will be in SERIOUS trouble!
